Should College Athletes Be Paid?

We are presenting on the issue of paying college athletes. This is a topic that is very

interesting to us both, and it is very prevalent to us as a student body. We are planning on doing

lots of research about all the different types of college sports, how much money they bring in,

current issues and peoples opinions on this topic, and much more. We will also look at if student

athletes themselves would be benefitted from receiving a salary to play a sport. Also, many

student athletes already receive many amenities, and we will research that and if that plays a part

in the issue. After doing all of our research, we will make an informed decision about if we think

college athletes should be payed or not. We will present and show all of our data and findings

using either PowerPoint or Prezi. We will also make use of graphs and charts that we find that

represent our data and conclusions. There are also many famous athletes and spokespeople who

have voiced their opinions on this topic. We will show certain interviews if we determine that

their viewpoints would help explain and furthermore expand our discussion of the topic.

This is a topic that has really developed and advanced in the last few years. There should

be plenty of research and statistics that we can find on this issue. We will put all of our research

together and integrate that with current events that are associated with the topic. For example, a

few years ago, student athletes at Northwestern University protested Electronic Arts (EA)
making video games that represent colleges and their athletes. This union protested that it was

unfair for EA to make these video games without paying the student athletes themselves. This

case really brought heat behind the discussion of paying college athletes. We will use this

example and more like it to integrate our findings and to prove that this is a major issue with

very serious outcomes. We will also integrate the use of other peoples opinions and ideas about

this issue. Because it is very current, hearing what others have to say about this will be very

important as we try to learn as much about it as we can.

Our fellow classmates should care because this issue affects many people around us. We

have classmates that are student athletes, and there are many student athletes at this school. This

issue is relevant to us as a student body and it does have major ramifications. We will effectively

use our research to explain the topic and all it entails. We will have enough supporting evidence

and data to prove and back up our viewpoint. By using other peoples opinions and sharing those,

our audience will have the ability to make an informed decision about this. Our arguments will

have supporting data and we will explain everything in great detail.

We will both actively be working on research. As the semester goes on, we will

collaborate on putting the actual presentation together. Also we both plan on researching multiple

sports and how they compare to each other and collaborate with our findings on the issue. We

will plan accordingly to meet deadlines in advance as they are given to us incase of any issues or

changes that we need to make or fix to our project and its presentation. We plan on using any

class time that we have available and have a google document where we will both post

information on for the sports that we will research that we will then use to create the PowerPoint

or Prezi for our presentation.

The final take away message should be if you believe that collegiate athletes should be

paid or not paid for their particular sport/sports they are involved in. By using the graphs and

charts to show data and explain how this information is relevant to our topic. Interviews with

famous athletes and spokespeople who have different viewpoints on the issue. We will also

reveal our own viewpoint on the topic based on all the information that we have collected and

analyzed throughout the semester.

This is a topic that is of great interest to us both and we are excited to research it and

learn more about it throughout this semester. The issue of paying college athletes is an important

one and will be a very fun one to research.
