Seismic Analysis of a Multi storey RC Frame

Building in Different Seismic Zones and

Different types of soil
Abstract:

introduction: various methods has been developed for the seismic analysis of structures the three main
techniques are currently used for the analysis are:

1. Linear procedures.

Linear static analysis (seismic co-efficient analysis)

Linear dynamic analysis (response spectrum analysis)

2. non linear procedures.

Non-linear dynamic analysis (Time history Analysis)

we are taking should be consider as Linear static analysis for this...............

Structure information

height of floor: 3.2m

Height of building :44.8m

spacing in x-direction and y-direction: 4.5m

size of columns :0.4m*1m

size of beams :0.4m*0.6m

Thickness of slab: 150mm

thickness of wall: 120mm

Grade of steel and concrete: Fe500 and M40

Importance factor: 1

Procedure for analysis the structure

Step 1:

change the preference of concrete design to IS:456:2000

Step 2:

Defining the material properties

Step 3:

Defining the frame properties

Step 4:

Defining static load cases i.e.; Dead load, live load, seismic-x direction and seismic-y direction

Time period: It is calculated as per IS:1893:2002

Formulae: Ta=0.09H/d

=0.09*44.8/22
=0.850sec

Step 5:

Assign dead load of UDL to beams and live load to floor

calculation of dead load walls:

UDL of wall= 0.12(thickness)*3.2(height of wall)*20( brick density)=7.68kN/m

live load on floor: we should consider 3kN/m (as per is )

Live load reduction as per IS 1893:2002

SEISMIC ANALYSIS RESULTS:

Seismic analysis carried out by the help of ETABS and the results of base shear and seismic weight and
story drifts, story shear
