1.0 INTRODUCTION
The course provides an introduction to engineering study giving students experience in planning a project,
literature searching, experimental work, oral presentation and report writing. Students choose a project
from a list reflecting the research interests of the lecturer in the Department which he/she will work until the
end of the Semester. Having made their choice, students then have a supervisor who will be available at
least once a week to provide overall guidance during the project. The planning and execution of the project
are the student's responsibility with the supervisor kept fully informed. The student will work individually
under the supervision of the lecturer and submit a written report before the end of Semester. Besides that,
they are needed to present their research outcome.
2.0 WORKLOAD
The lecturers should spend 2 hours per week throughout the academic year to supervise the student.
3.0 MATERIALS
There is no formal textbook but students have access to the University Library that contains a wide variety
of literature searching tools, engineering journals and other resources. The Department's laboratories
are made available to students for the execution of experiment.
All lecturers participate in the course by acting as project supervisors. The responsibilities of the lecturers
are as follows:
a) Explain briefly the objectives, scope and description of the research project to the students.
b) Set regular meeting with student and endorse students monitoring record.
c) Observe all deadlines and presentation schedules as notified by the coordinator and ensure
the
student follow the deadlines given.
d) Remind student on the issues of plagiarism and its consequences. Originality of the work

Background study
Objectives of the study clearly identified
Problem Statement
Scope of Research

ii)Data collection/Findings/Observation/Results
Good quality of data
Sufficient quantity of data obtained /interpreted
b) Manuscript (15%) - The marks for manuscript submission will be given by second examiner
according to the status of submission. Supervisor shall recommend high marks to any student who
able to conduct a research of a high standard, with a well-designed methodology carried

major conference or journal.
d) Poster presentation (20%) - The marks for poster presentation will be fully assessed by second examiner.
