Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: S8P4. Students will explore the wave nature of sound and
electromagnetic radiation.
I would use this as an example for an assignment where students would create a poem, song, or rap
concerning a science topic. They will record an original track, and add beats. This will allow them
to research a topic, but more importantly they will begin to get a hands -on experience with audio
waves, and how sound waves work. We could use the files later to analyze parts of a sound wave,
and how they behave.
With permission, the students and parents will be able to hear the sound files on the class blog. I
will give them a worksheet to fill out, where they can make a comment, and can ask a question. We
will share those in class as a group. The teacher will also provide personalized feedback for each file
Later we will analyze the parts of file they made, and examine how waves are affected by changes in
pitch and amplitude.
LoTi 5; Students are creating a product that is interesting and meaningful to them using technology, and
they are sharing with an audience outside of their peer group
Importance of technology:
The audio tool is critical for students to, not only record the sound file, but to visually see the structure and
behavior of sound waves. The project could not be created without the use of technology, and higher order
thinking skills would be reduced.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.
Students will be making their work available online, on a public blog, and it is important for the instructor
to follow the school districts internet safety/use policies. The teacher must screen each file to assure that no
personal information is given in the file, and permission must be obtained from the family partners of the
students.
