Quick Guide Stakeout with DTM Stakeout

This guide describes how to stake out points using the Stakeout program and how to
configure the program.

Then it shows how to create a DTM surface in LGO Design to Field, upload it to the
instrument and stake it out.

From the Main Menu select 2

1 Programs then Stakeout.

The Stakeout Job is where the

design data is stored. If you records
any points while you are staking out,
they will be stored in the Job.
The Job can be set to the same as the
Stakeout job, although you may
2
want to set this to be something
different to keep the design job
clean.
Set the Config set and Press F2
Conf.

If you are using the instrument in

robotic mode (one-person operation)
set Orientate: To Station.
In two-person operation set
3 Orientate: From Station.
Stake Mode: Orthogonal.
Press F6 Page.

In GPS mode the Orientate options

will be slightly different.
Often it is useful to orientate to a
4 point that is stored within a job so
that the information will be
referenced to a visible point rather
than North, the Sun or a Course
made good arrow.

You may wish to put in a Positional

tolerance for the setting out. When
you navigate to a point and press
5 the REC key, the difference
between the design coordinates and
your current position will be
checked against this tolerance.
Press F6 Page.

Any height offset required is

6 entered here e.g. traveller height.
Press F6 Page.

If you create a log file, residuals for

design to staked values are reported
to a txt file for QA purposes.
The FRT file is supplied with this
exercise. Put into the Convert
7
folder of the CF Card and use 6
Tools > 2 Transfer Objects > 06
Format Files to import to the
instrument
Press F1 Cont then F3 Setup

move BAC/FWD and
8 LEFT/RIGTH.
Often people use the TRK EDM
mode so that your BACK/FWD
distance is constantly updated.

Press F6 Page to toggle between the

Stakeout and Map tabs.
You can select points to Stakeout
9 from the Map page.
If the Map page is too cluttered
with text, press Shift then F2 CONF
to set up the map display

Once you have navigated to the

design point you could press REC.
If your current position is within
the tolerances set at Step 5 then the
point will be recorded.
10
If not you will see the screen shown
opposite. Either choose F1 Back to
try again. F3 store to ignore the
tolerances or F4 Skip to reject but
move onto the next point.
The point list in the Stakeout
program can be filtered to show just
the Points still to be staked out.

From the Stakeout screen (picture

11
in Step 8) highlight the Point ID
line and press Enter (Red) to show
the Point List.
Then press Shift then F5 Filter, then

When using DTM stakeout there is
an option on the Heights page of
the Stakeout Configuration. The
options are:
No - Take heights from the
keyed in values.
DTM only A GPS or TPS
position will be calculated
relative to the DTM. The
cut fill value will constantly
update.
18
DTM & Stake Job The
TPS or GPS position will be
reported relative to the
DTM as a cut/fill value and
all points in the stakeout job
will have their level
interpolated from the DTM
rather than using the keyed
in value. The stakeout
screen will guide you to this
level.

When DTM only or DTM & Stake

Job are selected in the configuration
19 screen the user will have an extra
option to select the DTM job at the
Stakeout Begin screen.
