1. Convert road alignment data into Leica Job format in LGO

Usually, road alignment data will be supplied digitally, most often from MX in Genio
format. This section of the quick guide describes preparing such data for use in
RoadRunner. If you dont have digital data, but have a printout of the horizontal and
vertical alignment elements youll need to use the Alignment Toolkit program on board
the Leica System1200 kit to manually key in the road design.

1 Install Leica Geo Office v6

Run 3.2 Design to Field

2
Importers.exe

Open LGO then in the Tools section

of the List Bar (down the left hand
3
side of the screen) open Design to

Click Import

Use the browser to navigate to your

alignment file. If your file is in MX
Genio format it must have the
5 extension .txt (if not you will have to
rename it)

to configure. The other pages do not
affect the operation of RoadRunner,
but are described here as they allow
greater user customisation.

Orientation: Stakeout reference i.e.

Fwd/Back and Left/Right with respect
to which reference
Work Corridor allows you to avoid
getting mixed up with strings from slip
roads etc. by defining an offset distance
from the CL where calculations will
stop.
Slope Method: (youll probably want
Reference Batter)
Reference Point = position peg with
defined offset from Catch point
Batter Rail = batter rail with defined

rail height above ground as well as rail
height above the slope (clearly, the
horizontal offset from the Catch Point
will have to vary to satisfy both
conditions)
Reference Batter = batter rail with
defined rail height above ground and
defined offset from Catch Point
Slope Expand gives the option to
expand a slope beyond its defining
string (and swap cut/fill) when the
outside string does not fit the ground.
A warning can be shown when a slope
is expanded.

Methods:
Stringline: Stakeout chainage and offset to a nominated Stringline. The chainage
relates to the Centreline / Master String.
Individual Stringline: Stakeout chainage and offset to a nominated Stringline. The
chainage relates to the selected Stringline itself i.e. CH=0 is the start of the Stringline
not the start of the road.
X-Slope: Defined by two adjacent Stringlines in the model. Unlike the Slope method
an X-Slope can not be expanded to meet the ground if the ground does not match the
outside string perfectly. This task can be used to set out or check carriageways.
Slope: Defined by two adjacent Stringlines in the model. One will be the outside
string and one will be the Hinge point. The Slope can be expanded to meet the ground
so you will be guided to where the defined slope intersects the existing ground.
Manual Slope: The Hinge point is defined by a string, the slope grade is defined and
whether it is cut or fill. You will be guided to where the defined slope intersects the
existing ground.
Crown: In effect two XSlopes are created, the crown Stringline being common to
both. The program will give Stakeout information for both X-Slopes at any given
chainage so that double header boards can be constructed.

each Stringline relates to the
Centreline.

didnt want to use in the field you can
exclude them by editing the alignment
data as per Step 4 in this section.

which string is set as the Centreline and
exclude certain stringlines from the
Project.

5. Creating Tasks
The steps involved in creating Tasks differ depending upon which Method you chose in
Section 3. RoadRunner Setup.

N.B. When creating Tasks you will generally not want to use Shifts. Shifts would move
the road design to fit the existing road at a tie-in. Shifts are not the same thing as
Offsets.

Methods:
Stringline: Stakeout chainage and offset to a nominated Stringline. The chainage relates
to the Centreline / Master String.
Individual Stringline: Stakeout chainage and offset to a nominated Stringline. The
chainage relates to the selected Stringline itself i.e. CH=0 is the start of the Stringline not
the start of the road.
X-Slope: Defined by two adjacent Stringlines in the model. Unlike the Slope method an
X-Slope can not be expanded to meet the ground if the ground does not match the outside
string perfectly. This task can be used to set out or check carriageways.

and one will be the Hinge point. The Slope can be expanded to meet the ground so you
will be guided to where the defined slope intersects the existing ground.
Manual Slope: The Hinge point is defined by a string, the slope grade is defined and
whether it is cut or fill. You will be guided to where the defined slope intersects the
existing ground.

that double header boards can be constructed.
