Thethemeofanendofphasemanagementreviewistoensurethatsucientworkhasbeencompleted
inthecurrentprojectphasetoallowtheprojecttoenterthenextphasewithoutanunacceptable
increaseinprojectrisk.Thusthechecklistisnotonlyforwhatworkwasdoneinlastphasebutalsofor
whatfoundaonhasbeensetfortheworkthatiscomingnext.Projectsthatdon'tlayagoodfoundaon
inriskreduconacviessuchasplanning,requirementsmanagement,designandtesngcanbecome
overextendedinlaterprojectphases,increasingthescheduleme,cost,andriskoftheproject,and
decreasingthetnessforuseoftheproject'sresult.Achecklistthattracksthestatusofkeyacviesand
deliverablesineachprojectphasecanhelptheteamandstakeholdersdecideifasucientfoundaon

1.Ifyouareatthebeginningofyourproject,downloadthischecklistandtheotherendofphase
checklistsandusethemtomakethegeneralplanfortheenreproject.Ifyouareinmidproject,
examinethechecklistsofpreviousphasestoensurethatyourprojectisnotalreadyoverextended.
Trytoavoidexaminingtheseendofphasechecklistslateintheprojectphaseorontheeveofthe
endofphaseprojectreviewtheylosemuchoftheirvalueasaplanningtooliftheyarenotused
early.

2.Editthesecheckliststoremoveitemsthatdon'tapplytoyourparcularproject,andtoinclude
addionalitemsthatarekeygangitemsinyourorganizaon'sdevelopmentprocess.Youcanalso

inthesubjectareaandhascapturedtheresultsofthatthinkingintoaplanthatspeciesacvies
anddeliverables.Theplanshouldbeinsomewrienformsothatitcanbesystemacallyapplied
totheprojectovermewithoutcompleterelianceonhumanmemory.Insomeorganizaons,you
cansubstute"planning"forplanandshowtheresultsimplicitlyinotheritemslikeschedules.Or
youmayhaveafewparagraphseachforsomeofthese"plans",capturedinonegeneralplanning
document.Inotherorganizaons,you'llwanttoshowamoreformalwrienplanorother
auditableevidencethatyou'vedonetheearlycricalthinkingaboutthesubjectarea.

4.StartacvelyusingeachchecklistEARLYintheprojectphasetoensurecompletenessofthe
acviesanddeliverablesthatyouaretryingtoaccomplishduringthephase.

5.Aspartoftheendofphasereview,thechecklistshouldbepreparedwitheithera"YES"or"NO"in
