Crayfish Habitat Menu

Directions: For the past three weeks, you have been working as scientists to
learn about Crayfish including what they need to live and the habitat in which
they live in. You will use your observations and research to create a Crayfish
Habitat Menu. This menu will be broken down into three parts: the appetizer,
main course, and dessert.

For the appetizer, you will use the observations and research you conducted
during your exploration of the crayfish to write down five facts about crayfish.
You will then use those facts to write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) from the
perspective of a crayfish. This paragraph must include what the crayfish eats,
what it needs to live, and what it looks like. You may include any other
information about the crayfish in your paragraph as long as you have what it
eats, what it needs to live, and what it looks like.

For the main course, you will draw and label the parts of a crayfish. Your labeling
must include the abdomen, cephalothorax, long and short antennae, the
carapace, the compound eye, four pairs of walking legs, cheliped (claw), telson,
and swimmerets. You may color your labeled drawing, but are not required to.
You will then create a model of your crayfishs habitat that identifies if the
crayfish lives on land, in water, or both, and at least two essential items you
would find in a crayfishs habitat for it to live. You are encouraged to be creative.
You may use colored pencils, crayons, paint, tissue paper, markers, googly eyes,
pompoms, feathers, etc. to create a model of your crayfishs habitat.

For the dessert, you are required to choose one of the following options. You
may complete one or more of the additional options, but only the first one will
be graded.
Option 1: Write a song, rap, or poem (with at least two stanzas) that
identifies at least three features of your crayfishs habitat.
Option 2: Create a comic strip using your crayfishs habitat as the setting.
The comic strip must be at least six squares long.
Option 3: Create a crossword puzzle with at least ten vocabulary words
from our crayfish unit. Three of those words must be related to the
crayfishs habitat.
Option 4: Pretend you are your crayfish for a day. Write an adventure story
(at least two paragraphs, 5-7 sentences per paragraph) about your
adventures as a crayfish. Be sure to include what your habitat looks like
and what you like and dislike about it.

Note: All students will be presented with a blank menu (made out of construction paper), but
you are allowed to create your own as long as it includes the appetizer, main course, and
dessert in that order.

You will have one week to complete this assignment. Class time will be provided.
