A. DNP 3.0 Communication Introduction

This documents is technical specification about DNP 3.0 communication protocol and consists
of DNP 3.0 communication H/W composition and setting, DNP 3.0 Profile Document, DNP
3.0 Implementation Table and DNP 3.0 Point List.

This document is based on DNP 3.0 Basic 4 Document. It describes the communication method
between ETR300 and main device, based on DNP 3.0 protocol.

Characteristics

Binary Input Points Point Remapping

Binary Input Points can be reset regarding the users need. Resetting is changed through operating
program.

Cold/Warm Restart
When DNP function code Cold/Warm restarts, only communication port and DNP process shall
be designed to be reset. It does not affect Recloser protection process.

Unsolicited Response
Configurable Enable or Disable to Configuration for DNP 3.0 whether Unsolicited Response
transmit or not to Master station. When Master stations request and devices Unsolicited Response
were transmitted simultaneously, Data collision is avoidable by having unsolicited response delay
time.

Time Synchronization
Because Time sync request interval setting, Reclosers Event, Protection, Faultwave shall be
maintained in detail timing. We provide Object 50, Variation 01 and Object 52, Vairation 02 which
are DNP function, the user can set the time via a DNP master.

Flow Control
Depending on DNP network, it is recommended to adjust data transmission property. In this case,
Tx Delay, RTS Off Dly setting can be used to adjust signal interval between real data transfer and
RTS. It can help solid communication.

Setting change from Master-Station

Analog Control in DNP support Function can be used to change Recloser Setting in local through
DNP Master. It is very useful for a feeder management.

C. Dialling Modem Support

ETR300 can support a Hayes compatible Modem on Port 1(RS-232) for remote dial up access
using DNP3.

(1) Configure modem with AT commands

Before using of Modem connected with ETR300, following setting shall be confirmed.

Configure port speed(must be done)

Set DNP communication speed the same as the speed between ETR300 and Modem, and set DNP
communication speed slower than the speed between modems.

Configure answer mode(frequently)

The modem will answer an incoming call on the second ring using the command ATS0=2.

Configure Data Carrier Detect(must be done)

Data Carrier Detect should follow the presence or absence of a calling modem.
The AT command is AT&C1.

Configure Data Terminal Ready(must be done)

Data Terminal Ready should control the modem. If DTR is high the modem is ready to receive
calls. If DTR is low the modem should not receive any more calls and should hang up any existing
call.
The AT command is AT&D2.

Configure Data Set Ready(must be done)

Data Set Ready should verify the modem. DSR is always ON.
The AT command is AT&S0.

Configure no CONNECT messages(must be done)

A Hayes AT-style modem usually outputs a message when a call is received. For example:

CONNECT 9600
The modem has a "quiet mode" that disables these messages.
The AT command is ATQ1. There will be no OK printed in response to this command.

ENHANCED TECHNOLOGY 18
DNP3.0 PROTOCOL http://www.entecene.co.kr

Configure no echo of commands(must be done)

Echoing commands can confuse the console, so turn off command echoing.
The AT command is ATE0.

Configure silent connection(must be done)

Most modems have a speaker. By default this is connected whilst a modem is connecting and
negotiating a common protocol and speed. This is very useful for a dialing modem, as it prevents a
human being accidentally repeatedly called. The speaker can be annoying on answering modems.
The AT command is ATM1.

(27) Retated to Communication
CTS Checkout Time : 1 ~ 255sec(In step of : 1sec), 1sec/1Count
- CTS Checkout Time is waiting time of modem reply about RTS signal which indicates
that RTU is ready for data transfer. RTU that does not send CTS answer within setting
time is handled as CTS Fail and does not send data.
- Specially, when try the Data transmission from various RTU applied in Wireless
Communication method at the same time, RTS is set in high during the Checkout Time,
preparing transmission permission delay time caused by wireless Traffic congestion.
- It is to manage flexibly according to various communication type
characteristics(wire/wireless).
RTS Off Delay Time : 10 ~ 500msec(In step of : 5msec), 1msec/1Count
- RTS Off Delay Time sets the delay time of RTS signal that become OFF after data
transmission.
DCD Timeout : 10 ~ 30000msec(In step of : 5msec), 1msec/1Count
- If DCD signal exists after DCD signal test delay time that check modem failure before

sending RTS signal in 2-wire communication method, RTU does not sent data and it is
handled as DCD Fail.
D/L confirm Select : 0:No, 1:Yes, 2:Sometime(In step of : 1), 1/1Count
- Sometime : Apply only Multifram (Request link reset at first Reset).
When apply Unsolicited Response at Power Up, Link Reset and send Initial
Unsolicited Response Message.
- Yes : Request Confirm about all D/L Frame transfer.
- No : Does not request Confirm about all Frame.
Refer to Multiframe interval and set the best communication status (wire/wireless)
of each Frame Interval when transfer Multi Frame.
- Application layer data request that use Confirmed link service, NACK if the prior link
reset is not done.
The side which received NACK requests link reset and when link reset is completed
responds the application user data.
- Device is application data treatment method of DATA request with wrong FCB
link reset completed status: Handle ACK with link layer confirm(0x00).
When link reset of one side is not completed : Nack by link layer confirm(0x00).
As Timeout is performed in sending side, Link Reset is performed in NACK receiving
part.
D/L Multi-frame Interval: 10 ~ 5000msec(In step of : 10msec), 1msec/1Count
D/L Retries : 0 ~ 2(In step of : 1), 1/1Count
D/L Timeout : 1 ~ 255sec(In step of : 1sec), 1sec/1Count
- Apply when transmit application data that request Confirm from Slave to Master.
- Waiting time of D/L confirm (ACK) reception from Master side after D/L frame
transmission: In case of CTS, DCD timeout consider as transfer failure. D/L, A/L timeout
are not performed.
- Progress D/L timer from the first byte transmission of D/L frame and receive all datas
that first byte of Master D/L frame started to receive within D/L timeout.
- Receive all datas that the firsty byte of Master D/L frame(ACK)
A/L retries : 0 ~ 2(In step of : 1), 1/1Count
A/L Timeout : 1 ~ 255sec(In step of : 1sec), 1sec/1Count
- It is a time that Confirm Data is transferred from Master Application to Slave Application
in case that Confirm is requested during data transmission from Slave Application to
Master ApplicationD/L Timeout.
- In case of Request about application data receive timeout are applied identically (in case
of application user data transmission ACK is included).

- Whether to use Unsol Class1,2,3: 0:Disable, 1:Enable(In step of : 1), 1/1Count
- In case that Restart Unsol Use is Enable, Initial Unsolicited Response Message is
produced when restart (Power Up) and transfer voluntarily the Event according to main
device type or lpcal LCD (Unsolicited Class) setting value.
When transfer Unsolicited Response Message, Application Layer Confirm shall be
requested.
Treatment method of D/L Confirm (Yes, Sometimes) request is first Link Reset and
transfer Unsolicited Response.
When Unsolicited Class is Enable: When Power Up, Initial Unsolicited Response
Message and before produced Event Data are sent. (Does not IIN Class Bit Set).
When Unsolicited Class is Disable: When Power Up, Initial Unsolicited Response
Message and IIN Class Bit set of before produced Event Data are sent.
- Unsolicited Confirmation Timeout applies(because request Application Confirm)
Application Timeout.
- Retry of Unsolicited Response(Initial and Event Unsolicited Response) applies
Application Retries.
- Unsol Delay Time is stabilization waitting time of the last Event occurrence till no status
change.
It is to solve other FRTU communication faulty and main device information handling
overburden, caused by wireless frequency channel occupancy increase by increased
communication number because the meaningless information produced during RTU
fault, switch and control fault occurrence.
- Device answers normally about All Function Request (Read Function Request included)
during waiting Initial Unsolited Response Confirmation. (Apply Test Procedure)
- In case that Unsolicited Class is Disable and has received Confirm about Initial Null
Unsolicited Response Message, Device does not send Unsolicited Response until receive
function code 0x14(enable data-filled unsolicited message) request from main device or
before setting Unsolicited Class of local LED in Enable.
- When Restart the RTU, setting information of prior Class is maintained.
- It is a treatment about Event Data that have not received A/L Confirm after transferring

Backup Memory.
- Static Data is updated.
(32) Fault Current Report Type: 0:No, 1:Yes, 2:1Shot(In step of : 1), 1/1Count
If Fault Current Report Type is NO, all Sequence Fault Current (A, B, C, N) is not
processed in Event.
If Fault Current Report Type is YES, all Sequence Fault Current (A, B, C, N) is processed
in Event.
If Fault Current Report Type is 1 Shot, Fault Current of first Sequence (A,B, C, N) is
processed in Event.
Fault Current Event
Fault Current Event handling time is, Sequence Lockout time in case of permanent fault
and reset time in case of instantaneous time. In case of wireless, as all RTU experience
Event when line fault is occurred, communication burden is added.
Event saves all Sequence.
