PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
MULTI-MEDIA
above. To do this you will have to design AUTHORING
a project where students TEMPLATE
engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.
Grade Level: 8th
Content Area: Social Studies
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie X Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: SS8H7 The student will evaluate key

political, social, and economic changes that occurred in Georgia between 1877 and
1918.

Explain the roles of Booker T. Washington, W. E. B. DuBois, John and Lugenia Burns
Hope, and Alonzo Herndon.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and
teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will
use/care about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will
student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students about their work?
(Overview should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs) As a class we will review a PowerPoint on influential
members that have sparked economic, political, and social change in Georgia between 1877-1918.
While reviewing the PowerPoint I will have students popcorn the information on each slide by
paragraph, and after I will pair students to create a song on 1 influential member (Booker T.
Washington, W. E. B. DuBois, John and Lugenia Burns Hope, and Alonzo Herndon) mentioned in the
PowerPoint. Students will be asked to reference the information in the PowerPoint toward the lyrics
they chose to rap/song. In addition, students will need to print the lyrics for the song, and its required
for students to have a chorus for their song, minimum length of 1 minute and 30 seconds, and
maximum length of 2 min and 30 seconds. Also students will be informed of an extra credit
opportunity if they chose to create a music video for their song created.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Level 5 Expansion: Students are creating songs in order to execute my directed tasks of remembering the information of
influential members who sparked changes in Georgia economically, politically, and socially. Students are analyzing given
information and creating a process of remembering, by bringing forth art in a form of a structured song. Also students are using
the processing tool Audacity to create a song toward a learning experience of publishing online(YouTube) for future students to
use toward remembering the key information.

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience? Multimedia authoring tools are
critical to the project because students are able to be creative in remembering key information on influential leaders. The project
could be created without technology but would lack creativity. Also students wouldnt have the resources to make their song
meaningful for others such as melodic tunes, or cool instrumentals/beats.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy. Parents will sign a form addressing the importance of
students creating meaningful music toward the remembrance of importance leaders who have sparked
economic, social, and political change toward society. Students will be asked not to use any profanity,
and only positive language toward the creation of their project. Also an additional form for parents
consent on students posting their songs on YouTube for future use toward other students learning the
1
standard SS8H7 The student will evaluate key political, social, and economic
changes that occurred in Georgia between 1877 and 1918.
