Career Planning Assessment Report

I have always had the desire to help people. As a young child I love to pretend that I was

the teacher in the classroom and I had a 4th grade teacher that was my hero. I admired everything

about her and I knew that I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I knew that I wanted to be

an educator so I pursued an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. I was a Head Start

teacher for 5 years and I decided to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science. Prior to

receiving my Bachelors Degree, I became an administrator at my job and this experience has

opened up my interested to pursue education management. Because of my combined interest in

education and human services/management, I decided to obtain a Masters Degree in the

Administration of Human Services.

My Strength Finders Report found that I am interested in brainstorming with

intellectuals. I enjoy learning new things and broaden the thinking of others. Intuitively, I give

good advice and I enjoy reading to make discoveries and to learn. My goal is to comprehend

everything I read. I speak with an air of authority that I may not realize and that compels people

to act. I choose to associate with people who think big and think smart. Exchanging ideas,

concepts, or theories with intelligent individuals excites me. I am always pulling information

from conversations with people. I never know when someones question or suggestion will be

valuable.

My Strength Finders Report shows that members of my group ask me to share my

conviction, conclusions, or values. I select my friends carefully and they are few. You avoid

rushing into relationships. Once I trust and care about someone, the individual will usually seek

my counsel. Because of my strengths, I am drawn to the process of gaining knowledge and skills.

improve on what I already know. I like to help people achieve their

goals. I enjoy being busy, especially when I can assist someone in need. I am likely to be a good

partner at home, in the workplace, at school, or in the community and I tend to do more than is

expected of me. (file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/GallupReport%20kim%20Bolden%20

The MAPP assessment had similar findings. The assessment indicated that I prefer to

associate with others socially, organizationally, and recreationally. In addition to assuring

company with others, association is an important arena and environment for interacting with

people in a variety of ways: leadership, managing, supervising, communicating, serving, caring,

etc. I prefer and needs change and variety. Change is motivating, stimulating, and energizing.

(www.assessment.com) I look for new options, challenges, assignments, acquaintances,

relationships, and even new careers in new places. My preferences and motivations are derived

from understanding the deeper or 'real' meaning of ideas and words and use them effectively in

written or oral communication. My personal motivations support the willing acceptance of

responsibility for planning, assigning, and supervising work activities of others in operational or

administrative activities. Preferences focus on daily scheduling, procedures, expediting,

motivating, solving problems as they arise, and meeting functional objectives. I am strongly

motivated to coordinate: to take actions, to manipulate that which is at hand in order to "get the

show on the road. (www.assessment.com) I am strongly motivated to apply thinking to the big

picture through holistic ideas, concepts, options, and strategies. I am highly motivated to

consider creative writing and communicating at professional levels. Preferences are holistic,

conceptual, imaginative, and creative. "Ideas trigger more ideas" can be said about me. I prefer

management math because it includes a specialization for managing with math, i.e., making

management decisions with knowledge gained from this level of mathematical activity.

The Strength Finders Report and MAPP assessment had very similar findings, in terms

of how I view the world and people. The only discrepancy that I found in the MAPP Assessment

is a preference for management math. I am really not comfortable with utilizing sophisticated

math calculations.

The summary of my career choice is Executive Director of a non- profit organization.

Top executives devise strategies and policies to ensure that an organization meets its goals. They

plan, direct, and coordinate operational activities of companies and organizations. The leadership

skills and characteristics that are associated with this position are communication, decision-

making, management, problem solving and time management skills are essential to this position.

The personal strengths that I possess that would be ideal for the position of Executive Director

would be the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, resolve problems quickly, and direct a

diverse staff. The weaknesses I need to improve upon would be to ensure that I am updated with

the latest technology to potentially improve systems.
