Subject: Kyle Houston review

Inez,

After having taken some time this afternoon to thoroughly go over Kyles peer
reviews, I do not believe Kyle is ready to be promoted to a team leader position at
our Houston office. I say this because after reviewing the evaluations from 15 of
Kyles peers, he received an overall score of 2.42 out of a possible 3. This score
doesnt sound too bad, but after further breaking down each individual section of
the evaluations, you will see that Kyle is not ready for this promotion.

One area where Kyle did score very well in was the Contributing section. Out of a
possible 3, Kyle scored a 2.83, with a range from 2 to 3. Kyle is very prompt when it
comes to meeting all deadlines as well as attending meetings and providing
valuable input to the group discussions. His suggestions and ideas are very well
thought out and put together, and they help to keep the meeting moving along
nicely.

The Listening section was an area Kyle struggled in with the peer reviews, posting
only a 1.96 with a range from 0 to 3. I have personally witnessed Kyle exercise poor
listening skills on multiple occasions, as he frequently avoids the question of
whoever addresses him and moves onto an entirely different topic without first
clarifying the question that was brought to him. Because of this, I understand why
at least one peer gave Kyle a 0 in this section. However, Kyle is very good at letting
others voice their opinion while in meetings and in casual conversations. He rarely
interrupts, and when he does, it is never rude or boisterous.

The final section of the peer evaluations was Facilitating Group Problem Solving,
where Kyle scored a 2.18, again with a range from 0 to 3. Kyle is good at asking the
group for input in a clear and concise manner as to eliminate any confusion of what
he is asking, as well as encouraging suggestions of alternative solutions, at least
initially. However, Kyle can be rather narrow minded when it comes to determining
the best solution. Once he has determined what he thinks the best solution is, there
is no changing his mind.

While I do not believe Kyle is ready to be promoted to Houston, I do not think he is

completely unfit for the position. I believe Kyle has the potential to do very well as a
team leader one day, but he does need to improve in a couple of areas. I believe it
would be beneficial to meet with Kyle and discuss his weaknesses, and personally
re-evaluate him In the near future to see if he has made the necessary
improvements for the promotion.
I greatly appreciate you trusting my judgment and would be happy to clarify
anything should you have any questions or concerns. Please let me know If there is
anything else I can help you with.

Thank you,

Jackson VerWoert, Team Leader
