Edgecombe County School System PreK-Elementary Programs

Pre-K Programs
Edgecombe County Public Schools offers PreK programs at our elementary school sites.
Students that live in the school zone are provided transportation. The PreK classes operate on the
normal calendar school schedule. Students learn in center based classrooms to increase age
appropriate development.
Elementary Programs
Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Program
Available at G.W. Carver Elementary, Coker Wimberly Elementary and Martin Millennium
Academy.
Read to Achieve
Read to Achieve legislation led to the development of this program. Read to Achieve ensures that
third grade students who are not reading at grade level by the end of third grade will receive
special help that can include summer camps and other intervention strategies in order for the
student to be successful in the fourth grade.
Guided Reading
Guided reading is a teaching component used in the classroom in which students with similar
skill work in small groups with the teacher to improve literacy.
Reading 3D
Reading 3D uses a tracking record beginning in kindergarten to monitor reading and
comprehension skill development.
Discovery Education
Discovery education is a technology tool of resources for the classroom that include digital
formatted lessons in all subject areas for grades K 12.
iReady
iReady is a supplemental resource for Language Arts and Math in grades K 8. Lessons through
iReady are individualized for each student and tracks student growth.
The Daily Five
The Daily Five is a system used multiple times per week for students to develop the daily habits
of reading, writing, and working independently to increase literacy levels.
Study Island
Study Island helps students master state specific standards in math, reading, writing, science, and
social studies with engaging activities.
Hill Rap
Hill Rap is a structured intervention program developed at The Hill Center in Durham, NC. This
program includes a curriculum to help students that struggle in reading.
Writers Workshop
Writers Workshop is a program that allows every student to be an author while the teacher
facilitates and coaches the students as they write.
Moby Max
Moby Max works with students in reading, math, science, and social studies. This program
creates an individualized education plan for each student as they work at their own ability level.
Success Maker
Success Maker provides an individualized game-based instruction to students struggling in
reading and math.
Frayer Model Instruction
Frayer Model Instruction uses a graphic organizer approach in developing student knowledge of
vocabulary.
