Reflection for Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal
The Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal section of the final portfolio contains

artifacts that display my philosophy from my first education course to the updated version with

the understanding and reflection towards the end of my education courses, a detailed list and

artifacts of the professional development opportunities and how they contribute to my

professional understanding, and finally my field and clinical evaluations. To begin, my

philosophy of teaching from my beginning education course to towards the end of my education

courses were a lot of like. My views or philosophy on education remained consistent with the

beliefs of having a hands-on learning experience as well as believing in the philosophy of the

same philosopher. The only difference I feel in the two is that I now have a deeper understanding

in why I believe in that philosophy. The professional development portion of the professional

responsibilities for self-renewal was the largest portion of this section of the portfolio. I listed

fifteen of the professional development opportunities I attended, even though I participated in

much more during my student teaching placement at the school I was attending. Within my list

of professional development opportunities, I included many artifacts from the experiences such

as photographs, handouts or flyers, agendas, and books. Professional development opportunities

are very important to me because I want to gain as much knowledge and experiences as I can so

that I can become a better educator and mentor for my students. The last portion of this selection

for the final portfolio included my field and clinical evaluations. This section contains two

documents. The first is my evaluation from my first placement and my first mentor teacher Ms.

Williams. I am overjoyed of this evaluation because most of the scores I received are the highest

scores one can obtain, as well as having positive and encouraging comments. This makes me feel

proud because it shows how much my efforts, time, and energy paid off. The second document
is my clinical evaluation from my supervisor Ms. Musick. I am also proud of this evaluation. I

did have a rocky start with my first observation because I had not had the opportunity or ad been

asked to plan lessons yet so there for I had no lessons to be reviewed. However, I feel that I

improved drastically at the end of the placement which reflected in the last two visit evaluations

in my first placement. Overall, I feel that the Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal is an

important section in the final portfolio because working towards professional development

opportunities will allow me to become a better educator for my students and also to allow me to

remember that knowledge is power and I need to gain as much of it as well as experiences as I

can.
