Foreword
ApprovalofLevel3Training.

TheBINDTApprovalPanel,whichreportstoMQ&E(Membership,QualificationandEducationCommittee)routinelyaccreditstrainingcoursesatLevel1and2.
Coursesareapprovedasmeetingspecificrequirements,(generallydefinedintermsofanexaminationsyllabus)andtheobjectoftheexerciseistoensurethatall
aspectsofthesyllabusareaddressedwithinthetrainingcourseatasuitablelevelanddepth.

MostcoursesthatareaccreditedwillbefortrainingpriortoPCNexaminationsbutthatneednotalwaysbethecase.ForinstanceifanATOhasarequirementto
traincandidatestoperformarangeofwelldefinedtasks,thenatrainingcoursecouldbedesigned,andsubsequentlyaccreditedbyBINDTasmeetingthose
requirementsandwouldbelistedunderpart2oftheapprovallist.

Thesyllabusiswelldefined,thereforeatrainingcoursecanbedesignedtocoverthoseareasoflearning.ThisworkswellforLevel1andLevel2trainingbutit
doesnotworkatLevel3.

Level3coursesneedtobewellversedinaverybroadrangeofknowledgeandthecandidateshouldbefamiliarwithProductTechnology,theotherfourmainNDT
methods,ProcedureWritingandsoon.

ThewaythatweaddressthisdilemmaistodefinethreemainrequirementsthattrainingcentresmustmeetiftheyaretoberecognisedasprovidersofLevel3
training:

1. ThetutorsmustbeLevel3Certificated.
2. ThetrainingschoolmusthaveavailablethedefinedEssentialReadingmaterial.
3. Theremustbeasysteminplacewherebycandidatesareassessedonarrival,(orbeforehand),inordertoidentifythegapsintheirknowledge.The
trainingcoursemustthenbespecificallydesignedtoaddressthoseareasofweakness.

Thecoursecontentmustbedesignedasabespokeproduct,suitedtoaparticularindividual.Anytrainingestablishmentthatmeetsthethreerequirementsset
outabovemayrequestthatBINDTrecognisesthattheyarecapableofofferingLevel3trainingcoursesandonceprovenatauditcanbelistedunderpart3ofthe
approvallistbutwillnotbeincludedontheircertificateofapproval.
