Reflection on Practice
Strengths of the lesson:
Nouf was ready to start the lesson, she greeted the students and said
what she would do. Students were given the added incentive to work well
for a game of Kahoot at the end.
The previous days lesson on subtraction was reviewed.

Nouf used visuals such as the rope and cut it in two and questioned the
students until she had elicited the required response. The students
responded well to this.

Having the students work in pairs talking about what about what partition
means to them. Finally when Nouf asked the group what portioning
means, the word divide was mentioned and sufficient praise then given by
Nouf.

Nouf demonstrated moments of managing student behavior. It was

discreetly done and it was very clear that the student understood the
expectations.

Nouf was quiet and patient yet managed to motivate the students to
finish. Students were fully engaged in the activity.
Stuents were given a choice Kahoot or solving problems. It was good that
students were given the opportunity to decide on their learning.

The Kahoot game was a real hit and the students were very excited.

Overall a very good lesson, Nouf was pleasant, patient, mannerly (Move
to your groups please) and quiet and it was evident that the students
respected her.

Areas for development:

Nouf needs to work on dealing with that student that always interrupts.
What strategy could we use here?

When the students were in pairs on the carpet Nouf could have walked
around, listened to and responded to some of the childrens responses.
This was also a good opportunity to give praise.

When Nouf put a number on the board, she asked the students which one
was the 10s and which was the units. The students gave the sum of the
two numbers and Nouf said NO. This may have been confusing for the
students. Consider a different approach such as putting your hands to
your ears and say Listen, then repeat the question.

At one point Nouf stood in front of the board and the students could not
see the board. Please be aware of your position in the class during
teaching moments.

When introducing technology an activity it is important to have very clear

instructions and demonstrations.
