Classroom Management Plan

In order to provide my students with an optimal learning environment, I will maintain the
rules and procedures of the classroom. I believe respect and understanding is a central
element to the classroom experience, and if broken can lead to an inefficient classroom
environment. If a student disregards the rules, procedures, or expectations of my
classroom, there will be consequences to their actions. On a first offense, the student
can expect a discussion after class where the student and I will attempt to come up with
a solution to change this behavior. On a second offense, the student will be required to
complete an additional assignment dealing with the behavior. If the negative behavior
continues, the student will receive an office referral and a call to their parent/ guardian to
discuss solutions to the behavior. The teacher reserves the right to alter this course of
action if they feel that the situation deems necessary. All negative consequences will fall
within the guidelines set forth by the school.

Main Classroom Rules

1. Respect The Classroom- this includes teachers, materials, and fellow students
2. Be Prepared For Class - be as mentally and physically prepared for class as possible.
3. Be Punctual and Present- If you are not in class, you cannot learn the material.
4. Never Quit- The only way to truly fail at anything is to give up. Do not quit on me, and I
will not to quit on you.
Room Arrangement

1. Students will be in assigned seats until I have learned names. At that point, seating will
be up to my discretion.
2. The desk arrangement is subject to change depending on the goals of the lesson being
taught.

Procedures
1. When coming into class- Make your way to class before the bell rings. Once seated take
out materials for class and begin the bell ringer activity.
2. When turning in papers - Papers ready for grading will be turned into the designated box
for your classroom.
3. When you have a question- Please raise your hand in a calm manner and wait to be
called upon.
4. When concerned about grading- set up a time to meet with me outside of class time (ie.
planning period or before/after school

Teacher Expectations

1. Be Honest - I center my classroom on being honest and straightforward with my

students, and I expect the same in return. This includes cheating, plagiarism, and any
other form of dishonesty within the classroom.
2. Bring Effort Everyday - I will always give my best effort as your teacher anytime I step
foot in the classroom therefore, you must show effort in your learning.
3. Be Mature- As high school students, i expect you to conduct yourself maturely and
appropriately in the classroom. If you act like adults, you will be treated like adults.
4. Accept Responsibility- you are responsible for your own actions, your own work, and
your own success. As your teacher, I can provide you with the tools to succeed, but
ultimately, you are responsible for your success in this classroom and in life.

Policies

1. Grading- will be fairly awarded, and earned rather than given. The class breakdown is
as follows: Tests- 25%, Projects 25%, Quizzes 20% Homework 15%,
Participation/Attendance 15%
2. Bathroom Trips- Students will sign out upon leaving the classroom and sign in when
they return. This will allow me to monitor if a student is taking advantage of this privilege.

3. Cell Phones/Headphones - We will follow the school's policy on cell phones and
headphones. However, if permitted by the school, students can use their cell phones and
headphones at designated times during class. However, if a student is caught using
either device outside of this designated time, they will be required to turn in their device
to the teacher. The student can have their phone returned to them at the end of the
school day.
3. Food/Drink - Will be allowed in the classroom unless they become a distraction and or a
mess.
3. Late Arrival to class- if the student is late to class without a note, they will be required
to describe the reason they were late using terms discussed in class. If this misconduct
becomes a habit, then further action will be taken.
3. Other Policies- All other classroom policies are up to the discretion of the teacher and
the school/county policy.

Final Word

As a former student, I recognize the challenges that high school brings inside and outside of the
classroom. I firmly believe that with effort, respect, and honesty, this classroom can run
smoothly. I will do everything in my power to make government as educational as possible,
while also making it interesting and entertaining. I promise to be prepared, fair, and as
understanding as I can be, but require that my students do the same. Lastly, I am very happy to
have you in my class this semester and look forward to the next couple of months at Chilhowie
High School.

Your teacher,

Mr. Benjamin Barnett
