The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: They are cowherd people. Day and
night they protect the cows in the villages of cowherds. Listen and I will describe
them.

The gopas say that Nanda is the master of 900,000 cows and Upananda is
the master of 500,000 cows.

daa-laka-gav pati gav koir ghe yasya
nanda-rja sa eva hi
They say that Vabhnu is the master of a million cows and at King Nanda's
home are ten million cows.

Vabhnuvara has five million cows, and Sucandra and Droa in Vraja each
have that number.

sarva-lakaa-lakyhyau
gopa-rjau bhaviyata ata-candrnann ca
sundar su-vsasm gopn mad-vraje ramye
ata-ytho bhaviyati
These two gopa kings will be rich with all virtues. In My Vraja will also be
hundreds of groups of beautiful, beautifully dressed gops, their faces like
hundreds of moons.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O Brahm, the sages say that the
number one hundred million is called one arbuda. In each group there are ten
arbudas (one million).

kcit kcic chayyopakrak
goloka - of Goloka; vsinya - the residents; kacit - some; kcit - some; vai -
indeed; dvra-plik - doorkeepers; gra-prakar - decorators; kcit -
some; kcit - some; kcit - some; ayy-upakrak - arranging the bed.
Some of the gops who live in Gokula are doorkeepers, some decorate (the
divine couple), and some prepare the (divine couple's) bed.

vndvana - of Vndvana; plik - the protectors; govardhana - by
Govardhana Hill; nivsinya - residing; kcit - some; kuja - in the forest groves;
vidhyik - arranging.
Some of these gop associates of the Lord protect the forest of Vndvana,
some reside by Govardhana Hill, and some decorate the forest groves.

Some will reside in the forests of My Vraja. Some will reside by the Yamun
and some by the Ganges.

O Brahma, in Vraja there will be groups led by eight gop friends, by sixteen
gop friends, and by thirty-two gop friends.

Some of the gops to be had been Personified Vedas, some great sages,
some women in Mithil, some women in Koal, some women in Ayodhy, some

r-rutaya cu - the personified Vedas said; vk - words; mana - and
mind; gocara - the range; attam - beyond; tata - therefore; na - not; jyate -
known; tu - indeed; tat - that; nanda - bliss; mtram - only; iti - thus; yat - what;
vandanti - they say; iha - here; pura-vida - the cholars of the Puras; tat - that;
rpam - form; daraya - please show; asmkam - to us; yadi - if; deya - to be
given; vara - a benediction; hi - indeed; na - to us.
The personified Vedas said: Because You are beyond the material mind and
material words, we cannot perfectly understand You. If You wish to give us a
benediction, then please directly show us Your transcendental form, which the
scholars of the Puras say is full of bliss.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Hearing this, the Lord showed
them His own abode, where there is only bliss and there are neither decay nor

. . . where there is the forest named Vndvana, which is opulent with beautiful
forests of trees that fulfill all desires, and which brings happiness in every
season, . . .

. . . where there is the hill named Govardhana, which has beautiful caves and
swiftly-moving streams, which is made of jewels and precious minerals, and

. . . where there is the Yamun, which is the best of rivers, which has pure and
delicious water, which is filled with lotuses, swans, and other flowers and birds,

yatra gop-kadambakam tat-kadambaka-madhya-stha
kiorktir acyuta
. . . and where the infallible Lord, whose form is that of a youth, stood among
many gops intoxicated by tasting the nectar of many rsa dances.

bruta ki karavi va do madyo loko 'yam
yato nsti para varam

darayitv - having seen; iti - thus; ca - also; prha - said; bruta - please tell;
kim - what?; karavi - shall I do; va - of you; da - seen; madya - My;
loka - realm; ayam - which; yata - than which; na - not; asti - is; param -
better; varam - benediction.
Having revealed this, the Lord said: What more shall I do for you? Tell Me. You
have seen My realm. There is no benediction better than (seeing it).

kandarpa-koi-lvaye
tvayi de mansi na kmin-bhvam sadya
smara-kubdhny asaayam
When we see You in this way, more handsome than millions of Kmadevas,
our hearts become troubled with amorous desires and we yearn to become
beautiful girls. Of this there is no doubt.

We yearn to become beautiful gops in Goloka who worship You as their lover.

r-hari uvca - r Hari said; durlabha - difficult to attain; durghaa -
impossible; ca - and; eva - indeed; yumkam - your; su - beautiful; manoratha
- desire; may - by Me; anumodit - allowed; samyak - completely; satya -
true; bhavitum - to be; arhati - is worthy.
r Hari said: Although your glorious desire is impossible and can never be
attained, I will grant it. It will become true.

When a new Brahm is born to create (the universe), and the time of
Srasvata-kalpa arrives, you will become gops in Vraja.

To protect the devotees and kill the demons the Lord appeared in Tret-yuga
as Daaratha's son, the hero Rmacandra.

Lotus-eyed Rma went to St's svayamvara, broke the bow, and married
Janaka's daughter St.

O Brahm, when they saw Him, all the married women of Mithil were
overcome with desire. In a secluded place they all approached the Lord and said,
"O descendent of Raghu, please become our husband."

Rma, the king of the Rghavas, said to them, "O women, don't be unhappy.
At the end of Dvpara-yuga and I will fulfill your desire."

iti - thus; tbhya - to them; varam - benediction; datv - giving; r-rma -
r Rma; karu - of mercy; nidhi - an ocean; koaln - to the country of the
Koalas; prayayau - went; dhanv - with His bow; tejas - with power; jita -
conquered; bhrgava - Paraurma.
After giving them this benediction, r Rma, who is an ocean of mercy and
an expert bowman, with His great prowess defeated Paraurma and then went
to the country of the Koalas.

Seeing on the path very handsome Lord Rma, who is more charming than a
host of Kmadevas, the women of Koala in their hearts chose Him to be their
husband.

manas - with the heart; api - also; varam - choice; rma - Rma; dadau -
gave; tbhya - them; hi - indeed; aea - all; vit - knowing; manoratham -
desire; kariymi - I will do; vraje - in Vraja; gopya - gops; bhaviyatha - you
will become.
In His heart all-knowing Rma gave them this benediction: "You will become
gops in Vraja, and then I will fulfill your desire."

When He came with St and with His army, the women of Ayodhy went to
see the joy of the Raghus.

Seeing Him, they become bewildered and fainted, overcome with love. With a
vow to attain Lord Rma they performed austerities on the Sary's bank.

klind-tra-je vane
A voice from the sky (said) to them, "At the end of Dvpara-yuga, in the
forest by the Yamun's shore, (your) desire will be fulfilled. Of this there is no
doubt."

pitu - of His father; vkyt - by the statement; yad - when; rma - Rma;
daaka - Daaka; khyam - named; vanam - to the forest; gata - gone;
cacra - went; stay - St; srdham - with; lakmaena - and Lakmaa;
dhanumat - the expert bowman.
Then, because of His father's words, He went with St and the expert
bowman Lakmaa to the Daaka forest.

All the sages in the Daaka forest were worshipers of Lord Gopla. To attain
the rsa dance they always meditated on Me.

koi-kandarpa-sannibham
anya - another; ktim - form; te - they; tam - Him; vkya - seeing; param -
then; vismita - surprised; mnas - at heart; dhynt - from meditation;
utthya - rising; dadu - they saw; koi - millions; kandarpa - of Kmadeva's;
sannibham - like.
Surprised at heart by seeing this other form, they rose from their meditation
and saw Lord Rma, who was like millions of Kmadevas.

thinking; manas - with their heart; nemu - bowed down; cakru - did; stutim -
prayers; parm - great.
They said, "He is Lord Gopla, who has come without His flute and stick."
Thinking in this way in their hearts, they bowed down and offered eloquent
prayers.

"As St is, so let us all become."

For this reason, by My benediciton, at the end of Dvpara- yuga you will
become (as She). Then I will fulfill your wish.

leaves; lam - a cottage; samsadya - attaining; vana - in the forest; vsam -
residence; cakra - did; ha - indeed.

pulindya prema-vihval rmat-pda-rajo dhtv
prns tyaktu samudyat
tat - of Him; darana - by the sight; smara - with amorous desires; ruja -
agitated; pulindya - Pulinda girls; prema - with love; vihval - overcome;
rmat - of the handsome Lord; pda - of the feet; raja - the dust; dhtv -
holding; prnn - life; tyaktum - to abandon; samudyat - were ready.
When they saw Him, some aborigine girls became tortured with lust.
Overcome with love, they grasped the dust of His feet, intent on then giving up
their lives.

rvaa-dn - beginning with rvaa; nicarn - demons, who move in the
night; jitv - defeating; lakm - Lak; etya - going; st - St; pupakena - on
a flower-chariot; puram - to His own city; yayau - went.

vane lokpavdata aho satm api bhuvi
bhavana bhri-dukha-dam

stm - St; tatyja - renouncing; rja - of kings; indra - the king; vane - in
the forest; loka - of the people; apavdata - because of the criticism; aha - ah;
satm - of the saintly devotees; api - also; bhuvi - in the world; bhavanam -
manifestation; bhri - great; dukha - pain; dam - giving.
Then, because of the criticism of the ordinary people, Rma, the king of
kings, abandoned St in the forest. Ah, this brought great pain to the saintly
devotees in the world.

In Rma's palace there were many of these yaja Deities of St. (One day)
they came to life and approached Rma to enjoy (with Him).

wives, I cannot accept you". Then, filled with love, they said to Rma, the son of

. . . "Why do You not accept us? We are all St, the chaste daughter of the king
of Mithil. We are half of Your body. At the time of the yajas we were Your
assistants.

"You are a pious person. You know the teaching of the Vedas. Why do You
speak as one who is impious? First You take our hand and then You reject us.
From this You will incur sin."

r Rma said: Your words are right. What you say to Me is true. (Still,) I am
religious king, and I have vowed to accept only St as My wife.

Therefore at the end of Dvpara-yuga you will take birth in the spiritual land
of Vndvana, and there I will fulfill your desire.

yaj-sts; ca - also; gopik - gops; anysm - of other; ca - also; eva - indeed;
gopnm - gops; lakaam - characteristics; u - please hear; tat - that;
vidhe - O Brahm.
These yaja Deities of St will also become gops in Vraja. Now hear, O
Brahm, of the other gops.
