this tool (web
address)
Brief instructions Teachers basically use the tool to manage their classrooms. The teacher
of how to use the sets up his or her page to suit the needs of their class. Parents and
tool students both have to use the invitation code that the teacher sent them
to gain access to Haiku Learning. There are many different facets to
Haiku Learning. Teachers can create assignments and discussion boards
of one to one, small group or classwide origin. Teachers can embed web
content, create wiki-projects for students to complete. Students can use
it to complete their work and view their grades and assignments. Parents
can monitor what their children are doing and contact the teacher. For
example to create an assignment the teacher has full control over the
assignment. The teacher can choose to make it a personal assignment or
group project, copy and paste or write in the assignments details, and
then view as student to ensure it shows up as the teacher wants the
student to view it. The teacher student hands in the assignment and the
teacher is able to view it, comment, and grade it.
Ideas for how the I would use the Wiki Projects feature to create group and
tool can be used individual assignments for my students. This feature allows you
in PK-12 to set the project for the entire class, groups or individuals. These
assignments can also be peer reviewed, peer viewed (shared), or
teacher reviewed.
With older pupils the Discussion Boards could be used to pose
questions that introduce the subject to the class and it could also
be used to encourage discussion among the students.
Posting announcements or introductory videos with the Embed
the Web tool.
Badges can be used to encourage and motivate students.
Polls can also be used as introductions to lessons or they can be
used just solely for students or parents.
Use for attendance.
Positives and Positives
challenges of The amount of customization and flexibility is one of the best Ive
using the tool ever seen.
When creating it allows you to tailor your page and assignment to
the specific needs of your students or of the subject.
Allows plenty of opportunities for collaborative learning as well as
personal assignments.
Various opportunities for assessments.
More traditional options as well as less tradition options, such as
grading. Also the once an assignment is graded it automatically
goes in the gradebook.
Google integration- log in with google mail and enjoy the benefits
of Google Docs. Among other things, Google Docs automatically
saves work on a document.
Ability to share what you have created with other teachers.
TLED 430 Module 3
Collaborative Assignment
E-portfolios for students to assess their learning, see their
progress, and possibly share with colleges.
Content blocks allow for organization of subjects.
Embed the web tool blocks access to related videos/Haiku makes
it easy to keep content student-friendly. Allows for lots of
integration.
Challenges
Cost-Haiku Learning is free for teachers but only 5 classes and up
to 2GB of storage. The prices to upgrade start at $4.95 monthly
for a teacher with 7 classes. You can have up to 20 active classes
at $30 and 30 GB.
Younger students will likely struggle with this platform so there
would have to be limited use. However, it could still be used to
keep in touch with teachers and for parent-led assignments but in
that case it just doesnt seem worth it.
There is a lot to learn for teachers and students. Some may
struggle with the platform and if the teacher does not have a
handle on creating and managing the page the student likely
wont.
Different learning styles. Some students struggle with computer-
based learning so there needs to be a balance.
