Chapter 8: Writing and Reporting Within Your Field Agency

At my internship at The United Way of Delaware I was not held responsible for
writing reports at the agency. Normally that is not a responsibility that they give to the
interns at the facility. Although I was not held responsible for writing reports at my
internship, I have had a few years of experience writing several different types of reports
for the agency that I work with.
Most of my experience in writing reports revolves around clinical reports such as
treatment plans, clinical assessments, clinical intakes, and incident reports. I also have
experience writing unit director statistical reports while I was covering part time for my
supervisor. I have been writing clinical reports for so long that when I was face with the
challenge of writing a statistical unit director report I was thrown off guard. I had little
training in writing these reports and I found myself frustrated at times. I gave myself
plenty of time to try and practice the reports and in a way teach myself how to write them
due to the unavailability of supervision.
I find myself as a very strong clinical writer and I am able to touch on the detailed
aspects of treatment plans as well as progress notes within my writing. I know that going
forward I will be responsible for a lot more administrative type reports and knowing that
I have done it before, I know that no matter what challenges I am faced with, I will be
able to conquer them.
