Essential Questions:
How do the different things we do strengthen and weaken the environment?
The students will answer this question through each lesson in the unit. In this lesson, the students will
answer this question through the Venn diagram that they use to compare the land before and after the
once-ler. The students will use the final poster to describe their learning of what strengthen and weakens
the environment.
How do we change the environment to meet our needs?
In the poster of summative assessment, the students will provide details of what they could do
themselves to have the environment be changed to meet their needs.
How can I help and inform others to be good stewards to the environment?
This question will be answered through their in-depth work on this poster, they may use each other to
put on the bottom of the poster a way that they will help and inform others of the best way to be a good
steward. They will tell how deforestation plays into that.

The Summative assessment of this lesson in the unit is a summary poster to illustrate understanding of
deforestation, the students will include what it is, and the examples from in class what the positives and
negatives are of deforestation.

This Summary poster will be presented to the class at the end of the week so after the students have
finished the lesson they will have time in class to work on the poster and if not finished the first day they
will have more time to work on it.
Each group will receive a rubric that will explain the expectations that come with the poster. The
students will understand the timeline that they should be meeting and they will understand the guidelines
before their work is started.
