Catholicism is one of the three major branches of christianity.

Founded to be one of the first


religions in the world it came to be one of the most well known and biggest in the world. With
1.1 billion followers in the world it beats the other religions by a landslide. Over the course of
centuries it developed a highly sophisticated theology and an elaborate organizational structure
headed by the papacy, the oldest continuing absolute monarchy in the world.(Knowles).
Catholicism is one of the most historic religions to date. Using its power and vast amount of people it
has changed literature and history. Roman Catholicism originated with the very beginnings of
Christianity.I(Britannica.com)

Catholicism came from Judea the modern day Israel, a part of the Roman Empire. Catholicism
originated in about A.D. 30. The Christian community was founded by Jesus Christ and his
faithful group of disciples.

The Holy Book of Catholicism is the Bible. The Bible breaks down into the Old Testament and
the New Testament. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament they have multiple
books within them.
Some Holy Cities in Catholicism are St. Peters Square, Vatican City and the Temple Mount in
Jerusalem. There are many Holy cities in Catholicism, but these are the main places.
There are multiple Holy Days in Catholicism. The main Holy days are January 1, solemnity of
Mary, Mother of God; November 1, All Saints Day; and December 25, Christmas or Jesus
Birthday.

Core beliefs and teachings of Catholicism is that the 10 commandments;


1. I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him
only shall you serve.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
4. Honor your father and your mother.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbors wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbors goods.
are a moral compass to live by. The bible has no errors and is the word of God that has been
revealed. Baptism is needed for salvation. There is also the belief of Holy Trinity - one God in
three people; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
The catholicism belief in the afterlife is that the soul lives on after one is dead. It is taught that a
soul can go to Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell, all depending on how ones life was on Earth.
The sects of Catholicism are Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Anglicanism and
Orthodoxy.
