DESCRIPTIONOFCOURSE:
Thiscourseexploressoundasalanguageandasanartform.Throughinterdisciplinary
examplesthiscourseexaminesaudioaestheticsandtheroleoforganizedsoundin
contemporaryculture.Inthiscoursestudentsareintroducedtothetechniquesand
terminologyofexperimentalmusic,soundartandsounddesign.Thisclasswillconsistof
closelisteningsessions,discussionsandtheanalysisofworkbymajorsoundartists
anddesigners.
COURSEPREREQUISITE:
NoPrerequisite.
COURSEOBJECTIVES:
Studentswilllearnavarietyofaudiorecordingtechniqueswhileusingstateoftheart
hardwareandsoftware.Throughlecturesandinclassdemonstrationstheywillhowto
createandcommunicatesoundasamediumthroughvariousmediarelateddisciplines
foundinsoundanddesign.Inadditiontodevelopingatechnicalunderstandingwewill
alsoobservethehistoryofrecordedsoundthroughlecturesandlisteningsessions
highlightinghistoricallysignificantworks/artists.
