Art 21: Raymond Pettibon

Raymond Pettibon began his art career by

making posters and album art for bands in the
punk rock scene in California, including
designing the logo for his brothers band Black
Flag. Raymond Pettibon pursued a degree in

where he found his true calling. His works are
mostly black and white, rendered with india ink.
His artwork contains humor, irony, and metaphor
that make remarks on American culture and
politics. He is known for appropriating and
creating characters of his own to send the
message to the viewer; some of his characters
he uses are Va-voom and Gumby.
