To Whom It May Concern:

Savannah is a talented, creative, intelligent young woman who has the drive to be successful in any
endeavor she undertakes.
Savannah was a member of my AP Language and Composition class, as well as my AP Literature and
Composition class, and she demonstrates an incredible work ethic, creativity and deep understanding of the
subject matter, as well as a drive for perfection. She has the maturity to strive for a higher level of learning
and to function outside the box with more creative and interesting projects than the majority of her
classmates. She has high standards for herself and is a self-starter. Savannah would stay after school or come
in before school in order to create projects and essays of exceptional quality as well as participate in clubs
and extracurricular activities.
In my AP Language and Composition class each student is required to research a subject that has
interested her but she has not been afforded the opportunity to study in the traditional school setting.
Savannahs Big Question was "Throughout history, how has religion shaped U.S. politics?" Some of her sub-
questions were: "Are we entering into an age wherein religion cannot serve as a foundation of public
morality?" And "What did the Framers think of God's role in the founding if the country, or, what was their
religious intent?" Her curiosity regarding the upcoming presidential election, her own religious beliefs, and
the conflict she struggles with regarding her own liberal views and her fathers strong conservativism are
evident in her subject. Her primary sources included a book concerning the history of religion in America
and the effect it has had on the U.S. government, and another book regarding religious backgrounds of
Americans and the influence on public policy religion has. Savannahs conclusions debates, conflicts, and
conversation about the relationship between religion and politics encourages democracy and religion is
playing a lesser role in morality as a whole because of a wider acceptance of science, however, this does not
stop Americans from voting in a way that reflects their religious beliefs speaks to both her deep intellect
and her hunger for knowledge and understanding that exceeds her age. This is the very definition of
Savannah; she approaches everything including basic teenage rebellion in an academic, inquisitive
manner.
Her subject-area strengths are exceptional, and she excels in every subject area. Her work ethic is
evident in the success as she puts forth the effort and time necessary to succeed in any area, whether the
subject is easy for her or not. Savannah burns with the love of her content area and will be quite capable of
transferring this love to her peers and her studies. Along with exception insight and knowledge of the
cannon, Savannah employs incredible skills with rhetoric and debate. She refuses to settle for anything less
than the extraordinarily high goals she sets for herself.
Savannahs commitment to her community and her spiritual beliefs are both impressive and heartfelt.
Her work with Key Club (Kiwanis), ninth through twelfth grade, has given her the opportunity to log more
than 30 hours of community service each school year. She is equally committed to the Interact Club (Rotary)
with its focus on leadership and entrepreneurship and has served as Treasurer her junior year and currently
serves as Secretary.
Her concern for the members of our community and the wider world reaches beyond the walls of
Habersham Central High School. She participates in free food giveaways at The Torch, her church, and has
volunteered at the Cornelia soup kitchen most Saturday mornings. In addition, she teaches Sunday School,
leads worship, and sometimes acts in skits on Sundays for the elementary children in her church
I went on a mission trip to Washington DC/Baltimore and fed the homeless and organized and put on a
sidewalk Sunday School/block party in the projects. As part of her active community service, Savannah
volunteered to both set up and work at A Taste of Clarkesville where local restaurants support charities with
food samples for three years. She is also a leader in the Operation Christmas Child in our community, and
she also volunteers at the processing center and packs gift boxes for children in the Philippines and other
countries around the world.
With Savannahs work ethic and accomplishments, she is one of the most outstanding students I have
had the privilege to teach.
