CH 9 OPTION A
1. The problem facing Unilever was that their was a growing market but with a
growing market means a need to increase efficiency to keep up with
competitors. Unilever does business in most countries but runs on so many
different platforms that are not all aligned together. This problem made it
hard to manage the ongoing problems in each platform. The solution to this
was unifying all global platforms into one.
2. Enterprise resource planning is related to Unilevers business strategy
because that is the backbone to how orders are done at Unilever. Before,
Unilever had separate ways of doing business in every single country but with
using ERP, this makes it so everything is consolidated and easier to manage.
This leads to more efficiency for the company as thousands of transactions
are able to be done simultaneously. Merging the many different platforms
that Unilever had used to conduct it business means that company
employees will be in unity in the workings and troubleshooting of its own
platform.
3. According to SAPinsider in an article published by Ken Murphy, SAP HANA is
an analytic appliance to accelerate some of its key SAP ERP applications.
SAP HANA helps out with Unilevers purpose as it helps to streamline their
order processes, and is a cheaper alternative to other infrastructure and
hardware needed to complete the same tasks. Utilizing SAP HANA is both cost
efficient and time efficient as it can decrease production times.
4. SAP Hana has proved effective for the company and already last year, the
company has merged many of its platforms into one. Also, SAP HANA has
demonstrated increased speeds for the company and lower costs
comparatively.
