Instructions for Updating ESET Antivirus Signatures

This document provides instruction on how to update Antivirus Signatures for ESET Smart Security
on both managed and unmanaged clients within a Dimetra Network.

The following procedure is common to both Managed and Unmanaged Clients

1. Download the latest ESET Antivirus Signature from the Motorola Dimetra Security Service
website https://compass.motorolasolutions.com

The Signatures are contained in a zip file with the following Format:
ESET_Signatures_dd_mmm_yyyy.zip

e.g. ESET_Signatures_14_Nov_2012.zip

2. To verify the integrity of the Signature, we recommend that after the file has been
downloaded it is run through an MD5 hash algorithm to ensure that the downloaded file has
not been changed or become corrupt during the download process.

Note: There is a MD5 hashing application MOTOMD5.exe included on the Compass Extranet
release area. The application does not require installation and can be run from its saved
location.

3. To use MOTOMD5.exe, Open the application by double clicking the executable.

4. Browse to the location of the downloaded Signature file, select the file and click Calculate
MD5.

Note: Alternatively, the program allows you to drag the file over the application icon; when
released the hashing process begins.

4.5. Once completed, the MD5 hash will be displayed in the MOTOMD5 window, compare
this value to the one provided in the Antivirus Signature description on the Motorola
Dimetra Security Service website.

If they do not match, delete and re-download the Signature file.

If you have further problems with this process, contact the Motorola Europe, Middle
East and Africa Systems Support Centre (ESSC) on: +44(0)2030 277499

The following steps are for Managed Clients

A Managed client is where ESET signatures are distributed via a Core Security Management Server
(CSMS)

For Unmanaged clients, Click Here

A managed client is remotely administered via the ESET Remote Administration (ERA) console which
is installed as part of the ESET server installation on the CSMS. Antivirus Signatures and ESET policy
enforcement is automatically controlled to all clients managed by the CSMS.

1. Transfer the downloaded Signature file on to the CSMS. Right click the file and select
Extract All

2. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window: Navigate to the following location
using the Browse button:

C:\Temp\signatures

3. Select Next followed by Next again

4. If you receive the following warning message:

There is already a file with the same name in this location

Check the tick box Do this all for the next # conflicts and select Replace All

Note: All old files must be overwritten when new signatures are copied to the server as the
content of these files may have changed even though the filename is still the same.

5. On the CSMS open the ESET Remote Administration (ERA) Console using either the desktop
icon or via Start > Programs > ESET >ESET Remote Administrator Console > ESET Remote
Administrator Console.

6. Logon the to the ESET Remote Administration (ERA) Console as an Administrator user.

7. Within ERA, Select Tools > Server Options

11. Once completed the Update status will confirm that the latest Signature files have been
loaded in to the server and display the current date and time. These updates will now
automatically be distributed to your managed clients.

Note: By default the ESET server will automatically check for updated signatures and
distribute them to managed clients every 60 minutes. Using the procedure listed above will
reduce the waiting time and start the signature distribution.

The following steps are to be carried out for Unmanaged Clients

An unmanaged client is where the Antivirus Signatures and policy are handled locally by the ESET
client and not via a CSMS, for example a KMF Client or Server.

1. Transfer the downloaded Signature file on to the client which you intend to update. Right
click the file and select Extract All

2. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window: Navigate to the following location using
the Browse button:

C:\Signatures

Note: This location is different from the managed process. Ensure that you are extracting the
files to the correct location.

3. Select Next

4. If you receive the following warning message:

There is already a file with the same name in this location

to the client. Double click the ESET Smart Security Icon in the System taskbar.

signatures.
