I attracted my audience by using media magazine techniques to pull and hook my

audience in. the direct mode of address on my images on the main cover image and
double page spread allows to make eye contact with my audience therefore drawing
them in with self importance. My writing style was mainly in a sans-serif font and usually
size 11 was used so my text is recognisable but also a suitable size to read, on my cover
page and contents I used less text in order to make my audience of teenagers stay
interested as typically teenagers prefer less text to read than adults. The use of images in
my rock music magazine allowed to break up text but also stuck to conventions when
researching. Colours that were used such as black and red have symbolic meanings for
example black means doom, gloom and death therefore linking to my specific genre and
red connotating blood and violence. The mise-en scene of u rock magazine helps attract
and address my particular audience as it includes props, lighting background and
costumes as my magazine is aimed at students the costumes include skinny jeans and
casual T-shirts as this would be typical wear of my audience, the lighting is light to show
the features on the models faces the background on my main cover image and contents
are dull naturistic and dark as one includes a graveyard to link back to the genre by
conventions as graveyards are typically associated whereas my double page spread
image background goes against conventions to make it original.
Cover lines of my rock magazine have been used specifically to attract the audiences
attention and intrigue them with a main cover story but also when researching most cover
lines were about band albums and band break up issues therefore I have based my cover
lines around these typical conventions in order to get my audiences attention by meeting
expectations of the media conventions. The house style/colour scheme ties together with
the images text and layout as the two colours contrast well with each other especially with
the filters used on my images therefore this is very effective when attracting my audience
red, being the more dominant colour as less of the red is used than the white/black text
also adding a sense of the rolling stones colours as I was iconically basing these colours
around that. The competition/free gifts was included in my rock magazine again to
display conventions so my audience know my magazine is professional, relating to my
magazine I included free posters and band tickets as when looking at other examples I
found these two were mainly repeated in the magazines of kerrang and rolling stones
magazine.
