Parachute Lesson

Reflection from prior lesson: Students learned basic psychomotor movements as well as learned how to follow rules
and directions.

SD PE Content Standards
Standard 1: The physically literate individual demonstrates proficiency in a variety of motor skills and
movement patterns.
Standard 3: Students will participate in physical activity to achieve and maintain a health enhancing level
of physical fitness.
Standard 5: Students will understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment,
challenge, self-expression, social interaction, and employment.

1. Learn the rules of fire and ice tag.
2. Learn the rules of playing with the parachute, as well the different games.

Materials Needed: The primary facility for these activities will be the gymnasium. The equipment that we will need
will be four bean bags, 2 red, and 2 blue. We will also need a parachute.

Contextual Factors/ Learner Characteristics: Students have different learning styles, therefore not every student can
be taught in the same way. I will get to know my students to learn their characteristics and find out what motivates
them and how to manage them in the classroom.

The Lesson
1. Introduction (5 min)
Getting attention
Upon entering the gym, students will run 5 laps and then sit in the center circle, and wait for further
instructions. I will talk about the two activities that we will play today.

Relating to past experience and/or knowledge


The last class period we played freeze tag, it is very similar to fire and ice tag.

Creating a need to know


I will explain why todays activities will be important to help them understand the concepts of lifetime fitness
and how these concepts can assist individuals of all ages in their daily activities

Sharing objective, in general terms


The objectives for this class period are to learn basic psychomotor movements. Students will also learn how to
follow classroom rules and learn personal space.

2. Content Delivery (20 min)


Play Fire and Ice Tag
Play Parachute
o Run in circles, Dome, Igloo, Ostrich, Shirt Color Game, Sharks and Lifeguards
4. Closure (3 min)
Have students help pick up the equipment.
Have the kids line up by the door and wait for their teacher.

Use observations to learn about what students need to improve on.
