Set Induction:
1 -Good morning class! Yesterday we talked about what
Minutes
verbs are! Can someone remind the class of what a verb
is?
-Great! A verb is an action word. Verbs bring action to
our sentences and tell what the subject is doing. Without
verbs, nothing would happen.
-Can someone give me a few examples of a verb?
-Run, jump, climb

Learnable Piece:
1 -Today we are going to continue to work with verbs and
Minutes
practice some of those action words by actually doing
the motions.
-Lets review that a verb is an action word and we can
use them in sentences to tell when someone or
something is performing an action.
-For example, in the sentence I am going to run after
school today, run is the verb.
-What is the verb in the sentence Sam climbs the tree?
Exactly, climbs!
-We are going to read a story today and together we will
do the action for every verb we hear.
-The goal of this activity is for you to tell me what a verb
is and to be able to use one in a sentence from the story
so listen carefully!
30 Presentation of New Material/Directions:
Seconds - For this activity I am going to read the story Our
New Puppy out loud.
- Whenever we hear a verb (action word) in the
story, we will do the action together.
Transition:
30 -When I say go, I need everyone to stand up and give
Seconds
yourself some room around you to perform these action
words. Be careful of any desks, backpacks, and
neighbors around you!

2 Activity:
--The activity will take place in a small classroom setting
Minutes
with just enough room for small movements.
-There needs to be enough space between you and the
people around you in order to perform these actions.
Make sure you spread out!
-Read story, Our New Puppy out loud to class. Be sure
to keep back to the wall and not look at paper the whole
time (practice story before hand).

Possible Modifications:
_____ -If time, read story Spring into Spring and have
Minutes
students act out verbs again
-Practice using more verbs in different sentences
1 Lesson Review/ Check for understanding:
Minutes -Who can remind me what a verb is?
-Who can give me an example of a verb we heard in the
story?
-Who can use a verb in a sentence from the story we
read?
-Great job everyone!!
