Rationale & Artifact 2:

IEP Case Study Planning Cycle for Lesson Plan Evidence of Student Learning
The Evidence of Student Learning artifact required me to demonstrate the effects of teaching on
student learning and developing lessons that are beneficial for all students. The ESL connects to CEC
Standards 1-7: learner development and individual learning differences; learning environments; curricular
content knowledge; assessment; instructional planning and strategies; professional learning and ethical
practice; collaboration.
While completing the artifact, I gained knowledge and skills in the area of learner and learning.
The lesson and data collected in the artifact showed how the students were learning and growing from day
to day (CEC Standard #1). The material progressively got more challenging but with the proper
modifications and foundational skills, students were able to identify who questions and characteristics of
the characters after the unit lesson. Each student had a differentiated instruction throughout the lesson
(CEC Standard #1). As a group, the instructional assistants and I created an effective learning lesson that
supported individual and collaborative learning (CEC Standard #2). Students were able to use guided
worksheets to help with the assessment portion. The SmartBoard was used as a visual aide and instruction
about the material. Students worked in small groups and identified different characters while using a color
coordinated Venn Diagrams.
The ESL also enhanced my knowledge in the area of content, more specifically curricular content
knowledge. While collaborating with in class staff, we developed a reading lesson that was accessible and
meaningful for the students (CEC Standard #3). At the end of the three day unit, the students showed
mastery of the content.
Another area I which I gained knowledge was in the area of instructional pedagogy. Throughout the
lessons, I used informal and formal ways of data collection to better gauges if I have to modify a lesson
(CEC Standard #4). Assessments were completed by the students at the end of each lesson. The
instruction used during the lesson encouraged the students develop deep understanding of the concepts
being presented (CEC Standard #5).
Lastly, I gained knowledge in the area of professionalism and collaboration. At the end of the day,
I collaborated with the instructional assistances to get feedback on which students may need more time
with foundation skills and which students may need a more rigorous material (CEC Standard #7). I
evaluated the lesson I developed and modified it to better fit the needs of the students (CEC Standard #6).
Overall, the students did an excellent job with staying attentive during the lessons. The ESL
helped me develop better skills to fit the needs of my students during lesson planning. All the students
showed mastery skills in the area of identifying who questions in the text and continue to show progress
in recent lessons.
