1. Learning Goals/Objectives
What student learning goals/objectives do Which indicators of the Arizona content
you have for this lesson? standards does this lesson address?

Students build a series and a parallel (4-S5-C3) PO1 Demonstrate that

circuit electricity flowing in circuits can produce
light, heat, sound, and magnetic effects.
Students will learn to identify series and (4-S5-C3) PO2 Construct series and
parallel circuits parallel electric circuits

Why did you choose these strategies/methods?

This lesson involves using and constructing circuits with a number of small parts, having
a partner to help construct and double check work will help the students to avoid
struggling with the setup.
How will you group students for instruction?
Students will work in partners at their tables for this activity.

List below your activities/steps including 1. HOW you activate background knowledge,
2. GAIN student attention (set induction), 3. DEMONSTRATE processes and desired
outcomes (a. modeling, b. guided practice, c. independent practice), and 4. BRING
closure to the lesson. Finally, 5. ARTICULATE how you will evaluate your
lesson/determine if student learning occurred. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE
EACH OF THESE FIVE COMPONENTS IN THE ACTIVITIES/STEPS OF YOUR
LESSON
Activity/Step
(Explain each step) Time Allocated

1. How you activate background knowledge.

Students will watch a video on the various types of 5 minutes
circuits.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ3djos_LY8

2. Gain student attention.

Students will label a circuit diagram using 10 minutes
information they gained from the previous lesson.

3. Demonstrate ..
a. modeling.
I will model the two new types of circuits for the 15 minutes
students by drawing their diagrams on the board.
Students will predict how the bulbs in each circuit
burn.

b. guided practice..
The students and I will work together to build and 10 minutes
test one of the new circuits.

c. independent practice..
The students will work with their partner to 10 minutes
create the second new circuit and will test the
bulbs together.

4. Bring closure to lesson

The class will discuss the terms series and 10 minutes
parallel. We will create our own definitions and
the students will be responsible for logging the
definitions into their journal.

5. Articulate how you will evaluate how

learning has occurred..
10 minutes
I will evaluate if learning has occurred by having
the students explain the differences between series
and parallel circuits. Their journals will be
observed to verify that they have completed each
step of the lesson.
