Evaluation: What skills have you learnt in time management? How have you managed your
class time? What could you do to improve your time management?

STEP 2: RESEARCH
Primary Research
Site Analysis:

Insert photograph of the intended environment where the product, system,

environment will be used

Annotate the above image. Identify existing features, problems, possible factors that could
impact on the development of the design.

Target Market Research

Create a survey that can be given to the target market. This will help to gather ideas to ensure
your design appeals to the target market and is the most suitable solution to your problem.

Secondary Research
Existing Designs: Using the internet and other sources, collect 5 images of existing designs
that are relevant to your design project. Copy and paste these images into the image column.
For each image you are to identify positive, negative (minus) and interesting elements of the
design.

Image Positive Minus Interesting

Evaluation: As a result of your research of existing designs, what elements will you use in the
development of your own design?
STEP 3: IDEAS
Idea Development
Concept sketches
It is important to be able to communicate your ideas in a variety of ways. Concept sketches are
a good nonverbal method to communicate your ideas. They are rough sketches (LOTS of
them!) to get your ideas down on paper.

Model Making
Using cardboard, paper and other materials that are suitable for model making, you are to make
rough models of your designs. This helps to visualise your ideas in 3D. Remember to take
photos of your models to include here in your portfolio.

Design Refinement
Selecting two of the concept designs you like the most, expand on these designs and draw
them in more detail and at different angles.

Final Design
Using a whole page you are to draw your final design to presentation standard.

Materials, Tools and Techniques

Using the internet, books and magazines, identify the materials tools and techniques used in the
construction of your project. Insert an image and explain the purpose of the tool. You are
required to justify how you have used this tool in your project.

STEP 4: MAKE
Project Realisation
It is vital to accurately document the steps in the construction of your project. Using a digital
camera take photos of the processes you have undertaken to create your project from start to
finish. Under each image, use captions to explain what is taking place in each image, what
materials, tools and techniques you have used and any issues, mistakes and or challenges that
you may have encountered. Its here that you tell the story on how you made your project.

STEP 5: EVALUATION
Project Evaluation
Copy the Criteria to Evaluate Success table from section 1 and paste below. Add a column to
the right and evaluate each criteria in relation to your project.

Final evaluation in relation to the design brief

Below are some questions that may help you when evaluating the whole project.
Describe how the final product has met the design brief
How effectively have you managed your time to achieve the design brief?
Describe the skill and the knowledge you learnt throughout the project.
How could you improve your design?
