Goal of the Lesson What Math concept is being addressed or taught?
The students will addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles in real-world and mathematical problems. SC State Standard 4.MDA.7 Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles in real-world and mathematical problems.
Learning Target What will students be able to do at the conclusion of this
(observable & lesson? measurable) The students will be able evaluate unknown angles and use addition and subtraction to find these unknown angles with 95% accuracy. Materials/Resources What do I need to teach this lesson? Handouts PowerPoint Video What do students need to participate? 1 sheet of loose leaf paper 1 handout Pencil Technology I will use the smartboard to show the video and the PowerPoint to the students. Connection Across the How have I incorporated the arts? Curriculum Arts: The students will have to draw their angles to represent the angles in the word problems. PE: Allow the students to use varies ball, and throw these balls at different angles. Accommodations What support strategies will I use for students with and/or modifications learning needs? (ELL, disabilities, gifted, etc.) ELL: I will give these students a handout of the of the PowerPoint notes, and sit down with them as a group and work through the problems. Disabilities: I will start them off with a simpler problem. Gifted: I will increase the difficulty of the problems or give the students more complex problems if this students finishes early. Assessments What will I do to help students learn? Throughout the PowerPoint that the student will do and that we will do as a class. What will students do to demonstrate what they have learned?
At the end of the lesson they will have a problem to solve
based of what they have learned from the PowerPoint and after they have finished the problem I will come around and take it up. Before: 1. What Getting Ready Activities will I do to activate prior knowledge, make sure the problem/task is understood, and clarify possible misconceptions and to set clear expectations? Before we start I will ask the student to tell me some things that they know about angles. I will call on students and just allow them to tell me anything about angles. After that I will show the students a video to review what the students know about angles, and introduce supplementary and complementary angles.
During How will I support students and what worthwhile extension
activities will I provide? I start the students off with a problem of the day I allow the students to work it out, then we go through the PowerPoint discussing how to add and subtract angles. We will work through problems as a class, and they will work through problems individually from the PowerPoint. After 1. How will students be presenting findings? How will this be related to the story that was read to them? The students will have one last problem that they will work through individually after they complete this problem I will come around and take them up and review what the students did.
