As a part of a mini-assignment in E638 (Assessment of English Language

Learners), the following selected-response questions were created. Our task was to create

selected-response questions that we felt were appropriate for use, based on suggestions

provided by Miller, Linn, & Gronlund (2009, p. 215). We developed a construct to be

tested by our selected-response questions. My completion of this task demonstrates my

ability to create selected-response questions based on suggestions provided by experts in

the field of assessment.

These questions were based on content from an intermediate-level ESL class. The

content for the lesson was based on travel, and can be found at: http://www.english

current.com/travel-tourism-intermediate-esl-lesson-plan/.
Construct: These selected-response items attempt to assess students vocabulary
knowledge in terms of use, meaning, and form of the selected/tested words. Literacy and
reading comprehension skills are assumed; listening, speaking, and writing skills are not
included.

Answer Key: 1) B -- (use/meaning)

2) D -- (meaning)
3) B -- (form/meaning)

1 point is awarded for a correct response; 0 for incorrect. There are no partial points
possible. Highest score is 3/3.
