Essential Question: Should athletes treat their bodies certain ways to play at peak performance?

Working Thesis: Athletes should treat their bodies properly to be able to perform at an elite level

daily.

Refined Thesis: The time and effort an athlete puts into his preparation determines his

performance level.

Jiqiang, Wang. "Body Effect And Food Nutrition Regulation Research On Athletes' After

Training." Carpathian Journal Of Food Science & Technology 8.4 (2016): 176.

Advanced Placement Source. Web. 20 Feb. 2017.

In this article, Wang presents the data recorded in a month long trial of athletes and their

recovery time. This article talks about the biochemical reactions in an athlete's nutritional

recovery time. Wang explains how different types of supplements, and how they are ingested

can determine the speed of recovery time in athletes. Also, this article shows the different times,

before and after an event, that the supplements were taken and how the times affected the

athletes recovery time. This article will help my by showing that athletes need to take care of

their bodies and watch what they put into their bodies to help them recover faster. This article

shows that if an athlete takes care of his body, his recovery time is shortened and he is less prone

to injury.

Mayo, Jerry J. "Carbohydrate Intake For Peak Performance: Practical Guidelines For The

Endurance Athlete." AMAA Journal 28.3 (2015): 8. Advanced Placement Source. Web. 21

Feb. 2017.

This article talks about how the amount of carbohydrates that are consumed, can affect

the level of performance that an athlete plays at. This article explains how much intake is

beneficial for the elite athlete, how they affects the body, and when it is most beneficial to ingest

these carbohydrates. It explains how the CHO that are consumed is stored in the body, also how

they help recover and prevent an athlete from injury. This article also shows the effects of CHO

ingested before and after performance, and which is the most beneficial to an athlete. Mayos

article will help show my research on how athletes have to watch what they put into their bodies,

and keep their bodies healthy to perform at an elite level.

Monajati, Alireza, et al. "The Effectiveness Of Injury Prevention Programs To Modify Risk

Factors For Non-Contact Anterior Cruciate Ligament And Hamstring Injuries In

Uninjured Team Sports Athletes: A Systematic Review." Plos ONE 11.5 (2016): 1-15.

Academic Search Complete. Web. 20 Feb. 2017.

In this article, Monajati explains that hamstring strain and ACL injuries are the most

common types of injuries in non-contact sports. This article talks about how athletes can treat

their bodies on how to prevent these injuries, and also how to recover from them. Also this

article describes the tests and protocols athletes were put through to help prevent hamstring and

ACL injuries. Monajati explains the prevention protocols and how they are effective to athletes

either recovering from or trying to prevent the injuries. This article will help support my stance

and explain how athletes need to take care of their bodies to perform at the elite levels they

desire to compete at. This shows that athletes need to train their muscles in order to sustain from

becoming injured and recovering from injury faster.

Ohuruogu, Ben, Ugwuanyi I. Jonathan, and Ugwu Jude Ikechukwu. "Psychological Preparation

For Peak Performance In Sports Competition." Journal Of Education And Practice 7.12

(2016): 47-50. ERIC. Web. 20 Feb. 2017.

This article overviews the techniques that sport psychologists have adopted to train

athletes to become more prepared to compete at peak performance. In this article, Ohuruogu

explains that to prepare an elite athlete a coach must train the athlete both mentally and

physically. This article explains that physical ability is just as important as mental toughness in

sports. If an athlete does not have mental toughness, he does not make adjustments, he does not

overcome obstacles, nor does he fully gain his athletic potential. This article helps my stance on

how athletes need to prepare themselves to be able to compete at high levels. Ohuruogu helps

explain that there is multiple aspects of an athletes game he needs to train to gain his full

potential.

Qiang, Ai. "The Analysis Of High-Level Athletes' Nutrition And Diet." Carpathian Journal Of

Food Science & Technology 8.3 (2016): 151. Advanced Placement Source. Web. 20 Feb.

2017.

In this article, Qiang overviews the effects of diet and vitamins in women wrestlers. This

article shows results from a study on how diet affects an athletes body. If an athlete treats his

body properly, and monitors what he puts into his body it will be beneficial to him. The more

healthy food, protein, and vitamins an athlete consumes will greatly impact the way he performs.

Because of the intake of healthy food the athlete's body will become stronger, less injury prone,

and overall more flexible. This article will help demonstrate that athletes need to watch what

they consume and to continue to eat healthy. If an athlete does these things his performance

level will rise and they will succeed in his everyday life.

Webber, Kelly, et al. "Diet Quality Of Collegiate Athletes." College Student Journal 49.2 (2015):

251. Advanced Placement Source. Web. 20 Feb. 2017.

In this article, Webber explains the diet quality of collegiate athletes and how they are so

healthy compared to body fat standards. Webber shows how athletes are eating, and the effects

of how a healthy diet can increase their performance levels. This articles outlines exact meals of

a healthy diet and how to effectively eat to greatly benefit from the good food athletes are

consuming. This article will help my stance on how athletes should prepare for competition. If

an athlete consumes healthy food prior to an event, his body will be healthy and ready to

compete at an elite level. This will greatly impact his endurance and his performance levels

while competing.
