CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?

This field experience was developed to address a problem that arose in the 7th Grade Math
classroom in my school. The Advanced Math classes were in need of acceleration, but it was not
possible to do it as a whole group due to varying Math abilities. The best solution became flipping
the classroom and providing independent learners with blended learning environments. It was a
great learning experience for me because I learned the benefits and the obstacles a blended
learning environment can provide to teachers and students. Having implemented this experience in
my classroom gives me a better understanding of how I can support teachers who want to partake
in this kind of learning with their students. I also learned that, as leaders, it is important not only to
define a problem, but also to propose solutions.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
In this field experience, the technology facilitator is required to know how to facilitate the
development and implementation of shared vision using technology and learning. This vision is
shared as the facilitator develops and models the use of online and blended learning and digital
content. A facilitator should also know how to support and extend student learning and expand
opportunities and choices for teachers that seek to develop similar learning environments. In order
to make this experience successful, a facilitator should have the skills necessary to troubleshoot
basic software and hardware problems common in digital learning environments. The facilitator
should also be able to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and
compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. Another important skill necessary in a
facilitator is the ability to utilize tools to successfully communicate with students, parents and
administration.
As I implemented this field experience, I noticed how important it is to have a good attitude about
technology that can be shared with other teachers as well as with students. Providing students with
an enthusiastic and autonomous blended environment extended to ownership of their learning.
Students were engaged in an authentic learning experience.

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?

This field experience has a great potential for school improvement in my school. Being a small
charter school, we struggle with staffing and providing students with adequate challenge or
support. In this particular case, acceleration was a key component, as it will allow our rising 8th
graders to receive High School credit for their Math course next year. It can have a long-term
impact in the learning opportunities our students receive. This impact can be easily assesses as we
look at the data of credits received and standardized testing from students engaged in the blended
learning environments for acceleration.
