Lacey Mclachlan 4/25/17 FHS 2450 Intro to Human Sexuality Reflection

Reflecting on this past semester and what Ive learn throughout this course. This course

covers every basic of human sexuality to love and relationships, sexually transmitted infections

and to the human reproductive system. While writing each essay that is required throughout the

class Ive studied the text book extensively learning more about each subject Ive wrote about.

Ive picked out two essays that Ive feel like I put the most work into to reflect upon. The two

essays I picked are how the media influences our society with the sexual content we are given

and does wearing the color red make you more attractive to the opposite sex.

With the first essay, I wrote was about how the media influences our sexual behavior. I

choose to compare two songs to being harmful to our society. Within the text book it talks about

one of these songs called Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. I picked this song because it stirred up

a lot of controversy once it came out. A quote that I found from the text book while writing this

paper greatly explains how the media is towards influencing us. In a qualitative analysis of the

lyrics of 30 popular songs, Jasper (2015) noted sexist content that promotes rape culture (Knox

& Milstein, 2017, p. 17). Another song that I picked to write about is Funs popular We Are

Young. It talks about how he hit his girlfriend long ago. Its basically a song that promotes

domestic abuse. Hitting top charts no one really knew what this song is about. So, I learned a lot

how the media rally influences us to believe a certain way.

With the other essay that I picked out was about the color red making us more attractive.

A lot people believe in this common myth about how it does make us more attractive. According

to my findings it does make us more attractive to the opposite sex. It was a wonderful topic to

write about; I love finding out more about myths that our society has made up. As in the text

book states that anyone can have a fetish towards almost everything. The most common form of
fetish objects are clothing items, including panties, stockings, lingerie, high-heeled shoes, and

boots. (Knox & Milstein, 2017, p. 399)

With these two essays, Ive learned so much about human sexuality and how the mind

works. Even with in each class we would go into these topics that we have written into further

depth. I want to take this knowledge that Ive learned with in this class to apply it to my further

education.
