To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the privilege of working with Kerry Messick for one year at Frostburg State University. My first
experience with Kerry was as my student in my literacy classroom where she did a fantastic job. Her dedication
to learning was infectious early on and only continued to grow as she continued through the Masters in Arts of
Teaching program.

Kerry has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages. She served as the Co-President of our chapter of
Frostburg Student Educators Association (FSEA), where she helped to organize events to serve and benefit the
local community. Her passion for helping others is obvious in her work with students in the classroom as well.
She has an ability to connect with others which are what makes her teaching and delivery special. She has a
talent for teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, in a way in which all students are able to
understand and become successful.

I had the opportunity to observe Kerry teaching figurative language to her third-grade students this spring. She
engaged her students in specific examples of similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia and idioms. She incorporated
real world examples to model what each of the four figurative language elements. Kerry managed the students
questions and excitement for this activity very well. It was clear she had a developed a relationship with her
students as well as mastered teaching in a open area classroom.

Kerry has excellent written and verbal communication skills and is very reliable as well as computer literate.
These skills are very important in the world of teaching today in order to maintain a strong sense of
communication with all of the stakeholders one works with while in the classroom. Kerry is very flexible and
can assess a situation and determine the most appropriate way to address or handle it. She shows great maturity
for such a young teacher. Kerry takes initiative as well as risks with her teaching, and always conducts herself
with a positive attitude.

Kerrys creativity is also another key quality she brings to her teaching. While working with her students
during her internship, Kerry wrote a myriad of lessons for all the disciplines with her expertise lying in science.
Her activities were highly engaging, student centered and individualized to meet the students needs. Kerry is
constantly striving to improve her lessons to better serve her students and their needs.

I have known Kerry professionally for the past year and can verify the excellence she brings to the education
profession. I highly recommend her to you without reservation. If you have any further questions with regard to
her background or qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Kris McGee
