ABSTRACT
PT. Berau Bara Abadi is a coal mining company located in Gunung Sari
village Segah district Berau Regency East Borneo Province. In planning the
mining of coal deposits, it is necessary to slope stability analysis. This is due to
mining activities, such as digging in a rock mass will cause a change in the stress
distribution of the slope which results in disruption of slope stability and can
eventually lead to slopes failure. The existence of a rockmass failure on the slope
will cause the loss of which could cause loss of human lives, loss of property
owned by the company, disruption of production activities (loss of production
time). Therefore, PT. Berau Bara Abadi conduct geotechnical investigations in
seven drill holes, namely GT 01, GT 02, GT 03 and GT 04. Of each borehole will
be taken some rock samples to be tested physical and mechanical properties of
rocks in the laboratory. From laboratory test results were obtained characteristics
of the rock mass which will then be used as input in the design of slopes. The
variation of the slope-forming follow the borehole lithology. The method used in
slope stability analysis is finite element method with the help of Software Finite
Element Method. The minimum value of Strength Reduction Factor (SRF)
recommended SRF > 1.20 for the overall slope.
The approach taken in analyzing the possibility of rockmass failure that
will occur in the study area by utilizing the strain contours of the analytical results
with finite element method as it also strongly influenced by the uniaxial
compressive stress from the rockmass. According to Bieniawski 1973, soil is a
natural formation material which has a compressive strength of less than 1 MPa.
Circular failure can occur on soil or material that is soft. Cohesion and friction
angle in use in the design of the overall slope is the approach by using the Mohr-
Coulomb theory.
From the analysis it can be concluded, that the recommendation to the
geometry of single slope with berms width 5 m, 5 m in high with a slope angle of
45. Overall geometry of the slope to the A-A Section 51.13 m in height and slope
angle of 31, For Section E-E with a height of 66.61 m and the slope angle of
29. Potential failure that may occur in the study area is circular failure. Factors
affecting the stability of slopes is the slope geometry, groundwater level and
seismic factors.
Needs further research about the Slope stabillitation by use of water
control technique.
