[Highlights of the source article] E. Tracy Williams desired to serve a mission, but she had to
overcome some weaknesses before eventually serving seven years later. In her article Working
Out Weaknesses, Sketching Out Faith, she relays her experience.
She talked to four different bishops who gave her the same counsel before choosing to follow it.
She learned to rely on the Savior, and when she experienced hardship, the Savior was there for
her. On Friday nights she went to the gym and studied about the Atonement.
When she qualified to serve a mission, she was called to the New Zealand Auckland Mission,
Tongan-speaking. She struggled to learn the language, but she recalled the scripture Ether 12:27
that states if we trust in Him, our weaknesses can become strengths. She took this scripture to
heart.
She realized that she needed to rely on Christ and her strengths. She explained, I love this
gospel and I love street art, so I decided to combine the two. She packed her scriptures and art
supplies into her backpack and used street art and the Spirit to teach others about Christ. She
sketched for three minutes to get people to hear her message.
After the three minutes, she was able to testify that with faith in Christ we can feel of His love
and forgiveness, and He can help us change for the better. Her seven years of preparation for her
mission helped her overcome her weaknesses and use her strengths to share what she knew with
others.
