MOHD HAFIZ BURHAN

DEFINITION
Isometric drawing is a method for WIKIPEDIA:
The term "isometric" comes
visually representing 3D (three- from the Greek for "equal
measure", reflecting that
dimensional) objects in two the scale along each axis of
dimensions in technical or the projection is the same
engineering drawings.

Isometric rendered 3D modeling

DEFINITION
A 2D wire-frame model is a visual presentation of a 3-
dimensional (3D) or physical object used in 3D computer
graphics by connecting an object's constituent vertices using
straight lines or curves. The object is projected into screen
space by drawing lines at the location of each edge.

FUNDAMENTAL
In isometric drawing, circle is basically represented
as an ellipse (or isocircle).

Note:
Half circle is not half
ellipse, so to create
half circle u need to
switch on the quadrant
snap and use trim
command.
ISOMETRIC METHOD IN AUTOCAD
Begin with setting up your drafting from standard to
Isometric
Expand the snap area and click snap setting

ISOMETRIC METHOD IN AUTOCAD
Start your drawing with isoplane Top as shown
in figure below or press F5 for the shortcut.
LETS DO IT

Set unit to mm
and precision to
0.00

Start first point

at coordinate
(0,0)
TIPS:
Start at point (0,0).
Using continuous line, snap
grid, and polar tracking to save
drawing time.
Grid value (0.5 x 0.5).
Just ignore the UCS axis or you
can hide it.
Make sure you change
the isoplane from top
to left before drawing
the circle or press F5

To draw the circle you must use the ellipse command:

Ellipse > Axis, End > Isocircle
Click on the center point of the circle and enter the radius of 0.25mm
Switch off

Hide the
grid

Switching off the UCS icon:

DIMENSIONAL SETUP IN AUTOCAD
ISOMETRIC DRAWING
First of all, change the text
alignment from Horizontal
to Aligned with dimension
line by modifying standard
dimension style.

DIMSTYLE >
Modify >
Text >
Text alignment >
Aligned with dimension line
DIMENSIONAL SETUP IN AUTOCAD
ISOMETRIC DRAWING
Create linear dimension
using Aligned.

Create circle dimension

using Leader.

Two types of dimensional characteristic:
1. Dimension Oblique Angle (DOA)
2. Font Oblique Angle (FOA)

DOA : FOA :
Key in DIMED > Double click on dimension >
Oblique > Highlight dimension value >
Select Object > Go to Formatting>
Enter Oblique Angle Enter Oblique Angle
DIMENSION OBLIQUE ANGLE (DOA)

DOA :
1. Key in DIMED >
2. Oblique >
3. Select Object >
4. Enter Oblique Angle

Key in given value

FOA :
1. Double click on dimension value >
2. Highlight dimension value >
3. Go to Formatting >
4. Enter Oblique Angle

DOA = 30 DOA = 90
FOA = 30 FOA = - 30
CIRCLE DIMENSION
For circle the
annotation is by using
Leader type.
Make sure you switch
on the Quadrant snap.
CIRCLE DIMENSION
U can choose either radius or
diameter to be displayed.
Diameter symbol can be
found in the symbol tab on
the top of the text editor bar.
For radius, you can directly
key in the radius symbol of
r.
After the symbol, then you
need to key in the value
manually.
COMPLETE
Your drawing are now
complete and ready for
title block insertion and
plotting.
The step for title block
insertion, scales, view
port, and plotting are the
same as we learned in 2D
geometrical construction.
Make sure you choose a
proper scale that cover all
the elements of your
drawing and specify in
your title block content.
