Internship Hours: 32 hrs/week Internship Placement: Chiro Medical Group, Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, CA Internship Job Title: Student Intern Background: This internship came about through a couple of different factors. One factor was location. My family all lives on the west coast and I knew, after going to school on the east coast, that the east coast wasnt for me. I got in contact with practices in Colorado, Oregon, and California. The second factor was the service offerings of each practice. Chiro Medical Group was the clinic that offered the broadest range of services. I saw this as an opportunity to view a variety of techniques as well as multiple disciplines within health care. I was in contact with their office administrator and after an October visit, we were able to coordinate an internship for the Spring. Professional Objectives: 1) To observe a variety of different Chiropractic techniques and modalities a. Activities/Resources: Doctors on staff, informational pamphlets b. Evidence: a list of techniques observed and descriptions, makes and models of equipment that I have experience with 2) To observe/shadow a chiropractor, physical therapist, and doctor of osteopathic medicine a. Activities/Resources: Doctors on staff b. Evidence: List of names and credentials from each doctor observed, possible signatures as well 3) To have hands on experience with both scheduling and billing administrative software for health care clinics a. Activities/Resources: Dr. Chrono, MedEvolve, eProcessingNetwork, software and online systems, office administration staff b. Evidence: Using a john doe account, provide screen shots of that patient and its journey through the system. 4) To have hands on experience with medical procedures such as massage therapy, electronic stimulation, and laser therapy. a. Activities/Resources: Office equipment, medical equipment, coworkers b. Evidence: Detailed account of procedures and roles Ive participated in with information on make and model of equipment used 5) To form a presentation and present at the clinicians weekly doctor meeting a. Activities/Resources: coworkers, doctors on staff, informational pamphlets on site, office equipment, medical equipment, peer reviewed journals b. 6) Aid in physical therapy work
a. Activities/Resources: physical therapy department staff, coworkers, exercise equipment b. Evidence: signatures from doctor, detailed description of role played Internship Duties: Intern will help manage patient flow, apply treatment therapies, aid physical therapists, observe medical procedures, participate in meetings.
