Fall Sports Data Collection for Athletic Trainners

By: Erin Porter, Olivia Solverson, and Emma Ivory

Reson for survery:

We, Athletic Trainers, decided to create this survey in order to order to collected data about what
our patients here at North Catholic need the most and also what we as trainers need more of to be
able to perform our jobs adequately. The data we collected was more than helpful because we
were able to see the most common injuries are from a sample student and also the treatment
required for those injuries. By conducting this survey we as athletic trainers will be able to report
back to our subordinate with what supplies we need more of, what common injuries are most
prevalent in high school sports, and how vital our job is. With all this data being reported back to
our superiors we are hoping to persuade them in to better supplying us with what we need to
preform our jobs better and seeing if they will let us start a prevention therapy that any athlete
can take to better their chances of not getting a prevalent injury.

To collect this data we got a list of the fall sport participants and every fifth person we asked to
take a survey, we continued this process until we had 5 players from each sport will to take this
survey. By having this random selection we will be able to get an overall depiction of what the
student athletes are in dire need of. Our main focus while preforming this survey was too find the
most common injuries and the ways students found most helpful to help the injury, as stated
above. This was just our main topic of the survey and the other questions used were to persuade
our superiors into allowing other helpful methods of improving wellbeing and or to gain an
overall knowledge as to how long these students were in need of our help. All in all, this survey
was taken to allow Athletic Trainers to be better prepared with more supplies from their superiors
and better prepared as far as time management goes

Range of data: 6 (0-5)

IQR: 2 (2-0).
Mean of data: 1.4- This suggests that most athletes did not get injured more than 1-2 times. The average
times an athlete got hurt was 1.4.
Standard deviation: 1.35. This means that the average distance of data values from the mean is 1.35.
Anything more or less than double 1.35 is considered unusual. 75% of the data is at most 2 standard
deviations away from the mean.
