words.
What are some other words that we might use to introduce our family?
Student will then share some of the vocabulary they do know for family
members. And teacher would encourage students to say more about each
vocabulary they said.

For example: the student said: Uncle! T: Thats right! Some of us might
have uncle. But just to make sure everyone know who Uncle is, can you
explain more about the relationship? Who exactly is Uncle? Is he from the
mothers sides or fathers?

13 min Understanding Check game with all the students. Picture of characters would be

relationship they are in.
So as a class, students will fill in their family member vocabulary in the empty
chart.
For example:
2 min Great, now we have seen the Simpsons family tree. Let us make a family
Transition tree for our own family! I would love to have you draw out your family tree
on a piece of paper first before we create our big poster of family tree.
So for this one, you are only going to draw the template without the picture.
However, you need to include the name and the key words we learned for family
members.
And as a class, after everyone shared their family tree, we will see who in our
class have the most number of brothers? Who have the most number of
sisters? And see if there are some similarity among the family trees.
5 min Student will work on their individual family tree template for the first 3 minutes,
and then they are going to share their tree with their peers siting next to them in 2
minutes. When students are sharing, student are expected to tell what they have
drew on their family tree and introduce that to her/his peers. Peers are also
responsible for checking each others use of keywords.

Now I would love to have you share your family tree with your elbow partner for
2 minutes. Briefly introduce your family and please help each other learn by
correcting them when they made a mistake with the key words!
10 min Teacher gets students attention back and introduces the big family tree project.
Now since you already have a clear idea of your family tree, you can go ahead
and start working on your big poster. And this time, make sure you stick the
pictures you brought with you of your family members on the poster, so everyone
can see! If there is no actual pictures, you are going to draw them out!
4 min Getting students attention back to the front of the class and showing students a
transition family tree example of the teachers own family.
I will share my family tree with you and I would like you to do the exact same
thing as I did, to introduce your family by using a family tree! Pay attention to
how I say the sentence using our key words.
This is my grandfather, this is my grandmother. Here is my father Cliff and
this is my mother Jessica. They got married XX years ago. They got me as their
baby. I am their daughter. My father has a brother named Henry. And he is my
uncle. I dont have an ant.
16 min Now we are going to do a gallery walk in our classroom. I would like everyone to
set their poster down. And we are going to split in to 3 different groups. Group A
is going to introduce his/her family tree to who every walk to your poster. For
example, if I am in Group A. I will set my poster and introduce my family to
whoever standing in front of my poster.

I will say switch every 1 minutes. And you as a visiting should go to someone
elses poster and listen to their introduction.

Student will then walk around the room listening or introducing their family to
other people.
8 min Join back as a whole class.

Great, so we have listened to everyones presentation of their family tree. Now I

am wondering, who in our class have the most number of brothers? How many?
Who have the most number of sisters? How many?
What about uncles? How many?
Is there any other fun facts you noticed?

What are something that we all have in common in every poster board?
2 min The key words for family members are the same! Lets review our key words
together and make this family tree model together.
