Personal Statement of Faith

As a Christian working in the public school system, there will not be as many

opportunities to present my faith in a clear way to my students. However, that does not mean

there will ever be a moment when I stop shining the light of Jesus (Matthew 5:16 NIV) through

my own behavior, in teachable moments and as I approach students on a daily basis.

My goal as a Christian educator in a secular workplace is to continually ask God to help

me model his truth and love for my students. This being said, I would be wise to pray and seek

prayer from others on a regular basis. In the classroom, I hope the students would see my

positive character traits as the norm and be motivated to take them on as well.

When disputes or other conflict arise with my students, I pray I am able to address the

situations with biblical wisdom. To do this effectively, I would have to remain rooted in Gods

word, reading the Bible and applying its truths to every situation. After always seeking to take

the higher road in disagreements, I pray my students would see again, take note of how I handle

situations and follow similar methods when they come into disagreements of their own.

In my own daily interaction with students I will always treat them as individuals who are

fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14 NIV) by our Heavenly Father. Yes, even when

they might ignore me or disrespect me, I will ask God to remind me that we were all created in

His image (Genesis 1:27). And as long as I can remember that, to always ask God to give me the

strength when I cannot find any in myself, I would be hard-pressed to find a reason to lose my

cool and react in a way that is not honoring to God.

I pray that I will reflect on this statement now and revisit it in months and years to come,

so I will not forget the hopes I have for myself and for my students.
