About the school

The school is currently under construction and expected to start operations in the year 2018. The school
aims to be a leadership academy for promising students from underserved communities and will serve
1000 students from grades 6-12 by 2020. The objective of the school is to empower students with
knowledge, skills and character traits to be lifelong learners and leaders. The school intends to follow
the Cambridge/ IB curricula for higher grades.

Role

The School Leader (Principal) is responsible for setting a powerful vision for student achievement and
motivating others to follow that vision, and strategically implementing the schools mission through
effective leadership and management of the schools students and staff. Their leadership will result in
an instructional program and school environment that prepares every student for success in college
and in life.

Responsibilities

1. Instructional Leader
a. Recruit and build a strong team of motivated, passionate teachers
b. Provide instructional leadership, management and curriculum support
c. Ensure that the school curriculum aligns with the priorities and objectives of the school
d. Monitor classroom instruction and provide timely and regular feedback to teachers to
improve their practice
e. Develop professional development plans for teachers
f. Analyze assessment data and set goals for continuous improvement in student
achievement

2. Student Support and Management


a. Develop criteria and processes for selection of students
b. Work with teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment for students
c. Develop and follow clearly articulated plans for daily operations and implementation of
student services; including support services (nutrition, learning disabilities, career and
general counselling), discipline management, and crisis intervention
d. Ensure there is support for both remedial instruction and for additional guidance when
students need to make choices for higher grades

3. Staff Management
a. Recruit and build a strong team of administrative and support staff
b. Define clear expectations for staff performance
c. Observe, monitor, provide frequent feedback and performance reviews
d. Provide professional development and growth opportunities
e. Ensure admin and staff view their role as critical in building future leaders and feel valued
parts of the school community

4. School Culture and Community Outreach


a. Build and foster a strong, cohesive school culture
b. Encourage positive, solutions-oriented problem solving
c. Support community outreach and build relationships with parents, teachers, students and
the community
d. Build partnerships with educational institutions, corporates and social enterprises to provide
exposure and challenges to students
e. Identify and support community requirements/training
Qualifications

We are looking for a passionate, driven, adaptable leader who is committed to improving the lives of
children from low-income communities. A few requirements for candidates applying for this position:

1. Bachelors Degree (required)


2. Masters Degree (preferred)
3. A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in either a low income school or an
IB/Cambridge school with demonstrated exemplary student results
4. A minimum of 2 years of experience in school leadership of either a low income school or an
IB/Cambridge school with demonstrated exemplary student results
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
6. A belief that outstanding school leaders, staff and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes
for all students
7. Ability to effectively manage instructional and non-instructional personnel
8. Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
9. Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment, while
driving toward clarity and solutions.
