Employability Report

Topic: Discuss some of the things that you could do to enhance your employability when
you graduate from University?

I will be graduating from Griffith University at the end of 2020, I will have graduated with
a Bachelor of Commerce, Majoring in Accounting and Economics. With these
qualifications, I would hope to have experienced opportunities within these industries to
help my chances of getting a job within this line of work. In my 2 nd year internship I will
hopefully be accepted into a well reputable workplace to make myself a lot more
qualified and experienced than my fellow other graduates. The 4 major banks will be my
first choice as they are well known, have a widespread of clientele and are located
around Australia.

To enhance my employability in my chosen industry, when I graduate I will contactable in

a widespread of professional employable websites available nationwide. This includes
Linked In, and more specifically online websites like linked in but more in relation to just
economic and accounting futures. This will make it easier for future employers to find
more about myself so they can identify quickly if I am suitable for the job and if they
decide they want a face-to-face interview they can contact me on multiple platforms (ie
phone, email, linked in messenger).

I will volunteer in firms of my choice in my chosen industry to get my foot in the door. As
Businesses never turn down free labour, and then they often hire people that have
volunteered because they are already trained in that position. It could be for weeks but
more commonly one day a week for months or even years.

One of the most important aspects of graduates employers are looking for is logical and
technical skills. To enhance my likelihood of receiving an offer for a job I will need to
improve my logical thinking and technical skills. To do this I will be attending workshops
to help expand my knowledge of computers and expand my skills in using Microsoft and
other computer programs which are used within the banking business. Also, I need to
improve my critical thinking for the banking industry as its a lot more sophisticated and
difficult than the part-time work Im used to. To heighten my problem solving, as
employers are wanting future employees to problem solve little to big problems,
internally and externally in their business/industry. These extra certificates will make me
stand out, but I can go further than just my skills at the job. I can get my First Aid
Certificate (as its known all businesses need a first aid representative), a certificate in
touch typing and MYOB or Quikbooks.

When I finish my degree, I am also eligible to become a member of various organisations

such as CPA Australia or the Economic Society of Australia. As a member of these
organisations it will make myself look dedicated to my work and more career focused as I
want to be perceived and be reputable within my line of work.
