Ilegal Immigrants

Introduction

Immigration, as we know it today in Australia, started 50 000 years ago when the
ancestors of Australian Aborigines arrived at the continent via the islands of New
Guinea and Maritime Southeast Asia. Many centuries after this in the 17th century, the
continent experienced its first coastal landing by Europeans. 100 years laters in 1788
the permanent settlement of Europeans began.

As any first world country Australia is able to accept refugees that want to leave their
homes because of war, terrorism, humanitarian crisis (like the one that is happening in
Somalia right now), etc. but what they dont know is that when they arrived there is a
secret policy promoted by the Australian government, that these unwanted refugees
are banished to undefined detention of shore. These refugees live in camps were the
condition are inhuman. Theyve been protesting for the last 3 years so the government
will improve the conditions. However, the change never arrives. Therefore, some of
them started to think about suicide, one Irani man burned himself until he was dead
because as he said he preferred to be in his own country, as Dr. Peter Young said: We
want to drain their hope, so they want to
return where they came from

For illegal immigrants, the conditions are

similar. Australian government calls this
policy: No way you are making Australia
your home. The Australians are very hard
on this matter if they could build a wall in
the ocean to prevent small boats with
immigrants to came to the country they would.

Pros of Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigrants are a source of inexpensive labor for businessmen that are looking to
pay less than the minimum wage. Some people might complain about these people
taking their jobs, but when was the last time that an educated person wanted to win
minimum wage. Also, some of these possible workers are very skillful in what they do,
therefore this could mean more productivity for the business.

Illegal immigrants are people. Therefore, they need to buy stuff to survive. And when
they buy things they are going to pay taxes, therefore illegal immigrants can boost the
economy, and thats because if more people buys more products, this means more tax
money for the government.

All of us need a place to live, a home. However, if you dont have that much money, the
only place you can look for a home is in the neighborhoods nobody wants to live,
therefore if they rent these places, the renters will start to win money. In conclusion,
they can assist economically depressed communities.
Finally, they can bring cultural diversity to the
country by creating small towns like China Town or
Little Tokyo, but with their own name, and this will
make more people interest about Australia, because
they can learn about several cultures inside one
country, so they will want to come.

Cons of Illegal Immigration

Most of the illegal immigrants are very poor, therefor they will do whatever they can to
survive, they will start to commit crimes, and the government wont be able to punished
them, because they dont have documents therefore they dont exist for the
government. In other words, the crime rate will increase.

Australia is already overpopulated, so if more people come to the country this problem
will get bigger. And the problem is that if overpopulation increases the quality of some
public services, like public transportation, will start to decrease.

Once businessmen start to use

inexpensive labor, they will depend on
it. And this is bad because once you
depend on this you will do anything to
get it, therefore you can start braking
the laws. In other words, businessmen
will try to bring more illegal immigrants
and the rates of human trafficking will
grow.

Solutions

The main solution to the refugee problem is to eliminate this secret policy they have for
them, and give them the same rights as Australian citizens. Instead of sending them to
this camps in islands, they should encourage them to become legal immigrants
therefore not only, Australia could be recognized as country that helps and saves those
in need, they will also benefit economically because as citizens of the country they will
be obliged to pay taxes. Another solution for this problem is to not accept any more
refugees because they are seeking a better life, so dont give them fake hopes on that
and just tell them you cannot accept more. Dont accept something you dont want.

Predictions

Refugees wont stop coming, therefor if Australia doesnt change their policy, first they
wont be able to fit all of them in those little islands, and even if they could protest
around the world will start to arise, because even though they dont know each other
they deserve the same rights. Even if international protest doesn't come, inside protest
from the same refugees will, because the conditions will get worse and worse, and
because the number of lives in these camps increased the difficulty to stop them too.
And this could result in the loss of many lives.
