Here's what we're learning this week:

Reading: This week we will provide evidence to support a main topic, ask and find answers in
a text, and compare and contrast two informational texts we have been studying.
Phonics: This week we will be working on the plural suffix es
Writing: This week students will choose the first topic they would like to write about.
Math: This week we will be trying something new, MATH WORKSHOP! I am thrilled to
try this new format of teaching in math! Students will still be receiving the same content
as in the other first grade classes, but with more focused small group instruction. Im really
excited to see how it works and make adjustments as we go!
Social Studies/Science: We will be working on a new unit, sorting things out. In this unit,
we look at characteristics of objects: color size, shape, hard, soft, rough, smooth, flexible,
rigid, magnetic, nonmagnetic.
Other news:
o Field Day: This Friday, May 5. Please check the weather and make sure your
student wears clothing suited for that days weather. WEAR AN ORANGE
SHIRT! Also, students may bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Please make
sure that their brown paper bag and water bottle is labeled with their name
and V-1.
o Field Trips
Economics Experience: On May 15, we will be walking from NG to
downtown Zeeland to experience what economics in the real world!
Students will be receiving a treat from Captain Sundae on our way back
from our field trip I will need 3 chaperones for this field trip.
Fredrick Meijer Gardens: On June 7, we will be heading to Fredrick Meijer
Gardens. ALL parents are welcome, but the first three to sign up will be
the free admission chaperone. All others will have to pay their own
admission, but are welcome to join! The more the merrier! All
parents/chaperones must meet us at the Gardens as we do not have space
on the bus.
o Muffins with Mom: May 10 (A-L) and 11 (M-Z)
o Tulip Time: May 10, 11, and 12 are days
o Memorial Day: May 29, no school
o Final Days: June 8 and 9 are days
